brake light on dash comming on(non abs 2g)

I've noticed as of late if i push hard on the brakes the pedal kinda feels a little crunchy and the brake light on the dash comes on why is this?

Check the fluid reservoir.

Check the brakes. Typically the light will come on if you have a leak, or the pistons are being pushed out farther (worn pads). DO NOT just top it off and forget about it. There is a larger problem at hand. Take the time to find out what it is.
