I searched for this answer and found nothing, so if I missed it I am sorry.
I am very new to turbos and somewhat new to DSM's so this may be a very dumb question.

From what i have seen they dont have blow off valves for 1g's? When I look at performance sites I never see a blow off valve for the 1g(which doesnt make sense to me cause i see 1gs with them on there, I think) and the ones I do find are for 2g's and you have to have 300+ Hp in order to use an aftermarket one.

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction, tell me if they make them for 1g's and if they make them for cars under 300hp. If not why.

Like I said I am very new to understanding turbo, so be gental. Thanks a bunch!! :thumb:
 
they do make 1g blow off valves and they can be found in the "parts catalog" section of this website. the 1g bov's are said to be excellent for handling boost to around 20 psi. also, you can buy any aftermarket BOV that you want...but just make sure that it it "recirculated" (meaning it has a connection on the BOV so that you can hook up that black hose thats on your current bov to it. if you do not get a recirculating BOV, be prepared for your car to run veryyy rich and bog/stall at low rpms.
 
All 1g's have a BOV, in fact, most 2g owners of turbo and turbo'ed NT tend to use 1g BOV if they are on a budget because they hold better than the 2g ones, which are made out of plastic if i'm not mistaken.
 
Have to have over 300 hp to use one? What places are telling you this? Seriously, there are a lot of uneducated people out there who claim to be knowledgeable. I use a 1g BOV and it works just fine. And yes, recirculate your BOV unless you have a MAF-t. Just beware that there are some out there that CAN'T recirculate, so look carefully at what you buy.
 
Ha-Ha. I am one of those uneducated people. Here is the story. I have always been interested in a 2g gsx. They are hot! I have a few friends who race their cars. One has 1g gst and the other has 2g gsx. And no these are not the people WHO told me about the 300hp thing. I have been racing my hoopty but am looking for a new car to race. My friends told me that a 1g would be a good car to get because they are easy to make fast. So I have no clue about these cars. i am use to Vettes and cars of that nature. I would ask these guys all these questions, but I like to learn and educate myself. I have not yet found a 1g, but as far as these guys say, I should be able to get one for about 2 grand, ready to race. they may not be fast, but i can do some mods to make them fast. I am a girl and this may sound corny, but I love that blow off valve sound. Thanks for answering my question, I am sure I will have more!! :thumb:

thats cool a girl wants to get into racing i wish we had cool chicks like you in my town :thumb: . now the ? is are you hot? LOL j/k i agree there are many bov you can use. you need to find out what type of sound you like a high pitch whistle are a big whoosh. also i would recomen replacing the plastic charge pipes on your car with metal ones they tend to expand and leak under boost. :dsm:

Everyone smile and nod. :cool: Thats awesome that a girl is interested in DSM's. My gf loves them but, we are still looking for the perfect one for her. She wants to mod her's right along with mine. Im gonna make her get a nice GSX, god shes gonna kick my ass. :cry: Why did i have to have FWD!!! o well i'll get her from a roll. Just keep asking questions and we'll keep answering them.

BOV's are pretty universal. It just depends on the type of flange you have to bolt it down. I have a 2g GST. I made some new piping for it. A new upper intercooler pipe. Which i used 2.5" SS and welded in a 1g bov flange and used a 1g BOV. They are metal and wont leak unlike the 2g plastic (Piece of Shit) BOV. and yes a 1g turbocharged car will come stock with the 1g bov. SO dont worry. Let us know when you find one. We'll help you determine if its a good one!
 
-You don' t have to have a 300hp car in order to put a aftermarket BOV on.
-You'll pay around 5k less for a 1g than you would for a 2g. 2g GSXs are hard as #### to find and cost a lot (at least the ones with low miles and 97-99 year models).
You are a girl so I know that you like the look of the 2g more than the 1g, right? ;)
Both 1g's and 2g's can be made fast since they have the same engine.
BOVs are universal, meaning you can put any kind on a turbocharged car. You can put any bov on your dsm as long as it's recirculated.

The 1g's have a better turbo (the 14b) whereas the 2g's have a T25 aka T-2Small
But the 2g's have a more flowing and opened up exhaust manifold and o2 housing.

If you have the money I say go with the 2g GSX if not then get either a 1g AWD 1g FWD or 2g FWD.

Which ever one you choose youll have fun with it and Own n00bs. :thumb: :dsm:

I race at Bandimere speedway(1/4)mile. I love to race. It is like I am male and have a one track mind and that is the quarter mile. I dont street race, to many people get hurt. I was thinking of getting into maybe the SCCA(i think thats what it is) but think the quarter mile is more for me.

And I would love 2g but a 1g is more my budget right now, unless I finance and then modding it would be out of the question engine wise.They frown upon that.
 
Look around alot. I happened to drive past my eclipse sitting at a bank and decided to look at it. A lady came out and i thought she was the owner so i immediately apoligized and she told me it had been repossessed by the bank. She was a bank teller and gave me a bunch of information about it. It had had $6000 worth of receipts of work. Including engine, turbo, transmission. Well i ended up buying it for $1200 and it has leather interior, perfect body (not a dent in it). Everything was perfect, but the engine was blown. Came to find out it had spun a rod bearing. We drove it home knocking and all. Replaced the engine and bada bing bada boom. It runs great now! Put a 14b on it and wow does it pull hard. One flaw, automatic, but hey atleast its a newly rebuilt automatic. God i love great deals. Looks great, runs great! Good Luck!
