I just read the 2.4 bottem end swap thread and they were talking about replacing the rod and main bearings "which makes sense" when doing the rebuild. But I was just wondering would you just go to the dealer and buy stock one's from the 4g64. Or the 63? or is there any aftermarket that would be better?

Slowboy has the rings you need and tell them you have a 4g64 crank and standard or undercut crank. I would go with the Clevite 77s tri metal. Little more expensive than the standard but worth it. THey aslo have the stock mitsu also doesnt really matter. Both are great breaings and many here run them.
Or you can call JAM and run there bearings I forgot the brand but there a great bearing and you can get them coated bit there big $$$$.

We have high dollar coated calico bearings now that i like alot but they are pricey!

ok i just looked on the inside of my box for my eagle rods and it says "must use early rod bearings 1990-1992 4g63b". So does that mean that those are the ones i buy or should i just go ahead and get the slowboy one's? It just seems wierd that the early ones would work for the later model....i'm pretty sure i have the right rods too, i duhno wierd

Yea you tell who ever your going to bet the bearings from that thats what you need in (standard, over under sized). What year crank are you using? Are you going to have the crank machined?? If you have it machined most likley .010 under sized (mains and rod) journals then tell slowboy or who ever that you crank was machined ten under and they will send you the correct bearings. Also it a good idea to use plasigauge to double check the oil clearances.

I forgot to add you have a 7 bolt block, pistons, rods, bearings are all diffrent for the 2g motors. The eagle rods you have rods for a 6 bolt 4g63? . The 4g64 motors are all diffrent parts as well. So you have a 4g64 block and crank correct??? Call who who ever you got the rods from what application they are for 4g63 or 4g64 to be sure they may be the same????

allright they are part number crs5900mb3d Which from what i found all i could see was they were for the 7 bolt 63, unless they are the same ... i couldnt remeber where i ordered them from but they should be the ones specifically for the 4g64 block with the 63 head, thats what i am trying to attemp. But as for the bearings I can just tell them they are for the 64 block and crank correct. Do i want them to machine the crank also? also i'm not sue what plasigauge is? Sorry for being stupid but it's my first rebuild i'm sure everyone else can look back on there first one and say......dang i was an idiot" LOL

I can think of a few brands, some of which have already been mentioned:

OEM
Calico
Clevite
King
ACL

The only bearing I have been told negative feedback about is the Clevites. I recently purchased some used parts from a shop and they gave me a bunch of brand new Clevites for free simply because they refuse to use them. Back when Quick Precision Racing was in business they never used Clevites, only King bearings. I wish I knew more about the Clevites but my bottom end has held itself together so I haven't had to research bearings.

If your using aftermarket 7 bolt rods ( Eagle, Manley, Crower, Scat, ) you still use 1G 6 Bolt rod bearings just like it says on the inside of your box.

You have to use 7 bolt main bearings in a 7 bolt block because those are the only ones that fit.

Guys using plastigauge!

Not the best explanation i have saw, but better than i can explain it! The article is long but picture # 10 and # 14 shows you it actually laying on an acura main journal. In picture # 14 you can see him measuring the "smashed" strip. You can get it in different sizes from autoparts and machinist stores.

In pictures # 19 and # 20 the plastigauge the rod bearings as well.
