Ok, heres the deal... I've read up on cv joints going bad. They are supposed to sound like "clicking" noises. Ok, well... I've recently started to hear a noise near the fron left tire/wheel hub assembly. This axle has never given any problems. The thing is, the sound that I'm hearing is not clicking, it's more of a whacking noise as if something was loose and hitting against something. I've had my car on and off of jack stands feeling for something that's loose and I can't fnd anything. When I hear the noise, I can also feel a little vibration through the clutch pedal. If I get up to speed, the sound goes away, lower gears (1st,2nd) are the worse. If I try to accelerate hard, it's bad. As for turning, it only makes the sound in lower gears. Any help I can get would be great!

Thanks,
Jake

When you hear the noise, like getting going in 1st and 2nd, does the car feel like it's not moving the way it should, hesitating, and did you happen to see grease slung around or a tear in the boot on the cv shaft?

Jack up the car and see if the boot is torn. Mine did the same thing, it was prevalent in the lower gears. My noise was the clamp that held the boot was spinning around the cv axle and hitting the parts of suspension, not sure what. But, you want to get those replaced. The best place is RAXLES axles. Trust me. Nice guy, ships fast, he sends a return label to ship you bad core. Awesome deal for like 250 for both of them.

It does feel like it's hesitating. It kinda lunges back forth. No grease or other residue of any type. I have not seen any visible tear as of yet. I will go check it again.

"IF it is a CV joint, it'll sound the worst while turning sharp turns (parking lot). "

It really only does it when the road is not truly flat. Out in my field it's bumpy, and even then it doesn't always do it. Going straight will always do it if in low gears. Attempt towards more throttle will initiate the sound also. As for turning, it doesn't do it if its a flat surface, most of the time. It seems to be low gears and rough terrain... but then on a flat surafce any attempt of more throttle will create the sound. 1psi of boost from my T-25.... not much force there :p, will make the noise also.

Ummmm....... Why would you drive your car in a field? Don't you guys use "farm trucks" like most everybody in the midwest? I know you are not in the midwest, but trucks generally handle driving in fields better....... Please say the car is used for rally........

LOL... You sound kinda bitter to the fact that he may drive a dsm in a field. If I could find a field to drive in that someone wouldn't shoot at me, I would go rallying in it.

No, it's not for rallying. I went out and tested my turning radius, making circles to see what made the noise and what woudn't make the noise. Trial and error... if you will; you know, to give the people better information that know more about me on these cars so where they will have all the information needed to help me out the most. That way, I don't mess something else up in the meanwhile. As we all know, fields aren't perfectly flat. They have spots that are bumpy and flat, perfect to see what creates the sound. And it did help me out. See it as you may, "farm trucking", or rallying out in the field, it got me what I needed and it doesn't bother me either way. I got my problem fixed... Thanks anyways.

Hey, I'm not saying I wouldn't go rallying, and I wasn't trying to piss anyone off. Just asking a question. The roads around here are so bumpy and uneven, you might as well be driving in a paved field all the time. My city's idea of "fixing" the roads is to tar them all and lay gravel over it. At the same time I wouldn't risk doing greater damage to suspension and exhaust and tires and wheels and the body for the sake of having an uneven surface to find a problem. But don't take offense because it wasn't meant that way.WTF
