I've had an autometer oil pressure guage for about 2 years now. It has always worked fine. Today while driving, it totally scared the living sh*t out of me. It died and dropped to zero and made me think I lost oil pressure.I quickly turned the engine down and pulled over. I checked for oil leaks and checked the connection at the pick up unit for the guage, everything was tight and no oil. I had the balls to turn the car back on, figuring I would take a look at the stock guage since i had both of them t'd from the filter housing. The stocker was reading normal and I noticed that my auto meter one was flickering from the normal pressure to zero over and over inconsistantly.
My questions are:
How can I tell wether it is the pick up or the guage? Is it common for these to crap out, and do they act like this? I didn't bother looking on the back of the guage itself because if I remember correctly the wires come directly from the inside the guage.

Thanks

I've had a couple of autometer oil pressure sensors die on me due to vibrations. I ran a seperate line to the sensor on the fender to reduce the vibrations and haven't had any issues since.
