I have a 97 gst... i have no O/D .......slips....mishifts.......WEll anyway i have metal supposedly in the pan. The question is am i going to need a new tranny or can i just rebuild mine like get the rebuild kit from IPT will it fix my problem.

You have no overdrive correct? Shavings that are powder and can't be felt are what I would consider normal. Big sharp shaved off pieces are not a good sign.

If you are not versed in auto trans overhaul, I recommend one of 2 things. A factory service manual that you can follow to the letter, or a transmission shop doing the work for you.

There's an abundance of things that can go wrong in one of these during assembly. From servo piston o-rings being cut to solenoids not working for some reason.

Good Luck

If you can drive the car to Wayne NJ, take it to IPT and Have John look at it.. He will tell you what exactly needs to be done to fix it and will not try to rip you off like local Transmission shops would. Even a call to him at the shop first may save you $100's of dollars..
