Found a 97 GST near by lot for sale. good price and miles. not mod'd once so ever. anybody with a auto tranny tell me if it's worth it or not. just came to mind since my friend just took my car to the store and i just remembered i got switched over to liability a couple of weeks ago. just in case i need a new car you guys think an automatic would be that bad. don't get me wrong manual a must but just some advice would be nice. thanks

i wish i had a stick:(, i would look to see if i could find something that is a stick. unless you are desperate for going turbo.

I say do it. The 2G 5-speeds and autos have identical engines/turbos, unlike the 1Gs, in which the autos had a smaller turbo, smaller injectors, and more anemic cams. The auto tranny can handle at least 300HP with no real mods, and guys have run 10s on the stock transmission, with just a shift kit and end clutch upgrade (end clutch is very easy to do and cheap too). A transmission cooler is essential when adding power, though, but that's also a cheap upgrade.

Look at it this way auto= 205hp/220torque, 5speed=210hp/214torque. Auto will be easier break less and wont be a hassel in traffic, 5speed is alot more fun, can handle more power and is slightly faster. Take it as you will...

I went threw the same thing when i got my car. At first i was depressed but now its not too bad. Ill have people race me because it is an automatic and i still stomp them. Its up to you.

Doug's right, I have both a FWD A/T and a AWD stick. While the M/T is more "fun" to drive, the A/T was more of a pleasure to drive. Yeah it's going to take a bit more money to make it quick but the most important thing to remember is to upgrade the A/T. Torque Converter, End Clutches, and a shift kit are a must. I ran 13s with my A/T and I had a 20G but I only boosted it to 15psi. Personally I know the car had 12s in it if I would have turned the boost up. I just got carried away with the AWD to care about racing the A/T anymore.

I woudn't hesitate to get another auto. With the proper mods an auto is consistant and just plain kicks ass. I have the Alto end clutch, Translab shift kit and a big B&M cooler. Its holding the 400+ hp pretty well.
My car will easily be in the mid-high 11's with the auto as soon as I get around to buying a 9-1/2" billet torque convertor. :D

Yea I test drove it yesterday. It had minor flaws, but for the most part it was nice. Automatic wasn't so bad after all. Spooled up rather quick, and someone had a loud bov put on and it scared the shiza out of my girlfriend. I live in the middle of a medium sized traffic problem during the summer so I figured it would probably be nice to sit in traffic with it instead of my nt stick. :dsm:
