So I am gonna be getting a in dash navigation unit soon and have a few questions.

I already have 4 speakers replacing the stock ones. Also in the end, I want the dash tweeters to work.

So the question is should I keep the factory amp under the passenger seat? or get a new one? or remove it completely. I was a bit confused on some of the other threads I was reading.

Also do I have to/should I rewire all the speakers differently with bigger gauge?

Thanks.

You can hardwire each speaker to the head unit directly, you should be able to retain the factory amp also if you prefer that. In the 2 dsm's ive owned neither has had the factory amp so i always bolt in 2 crossovers in place it and use the stock wiring to the speakers. you dont need to rewire the speakers, im currently running an old school 550 watt rf amp to all 6 of my speakers, 4 of which are on stock wires, and i can assure you you wont need anything louder. As far as the tweeters go ive always replaced mine with aftermarket so i cant help you there..

so 2 crossovers in place of the amp and use a better amp? That will make it louder and sound better?

Im bad on audio so a picture could really help me. Any certain crossovers I need to buy?

LOL do some research. Dont be one of those people who buys system stuff cause someone else says its the "best". In my opinion, a 4 channel 400 watt amp run to 2 crossovers ( one for rear and one for front and tweeters) is all anyone needs. Are you the type of person who listens to there music so everyone outside can hear it or you just want some good quality music thats enjoyable on a daily basis? Amp-crossover combo is for if you want to be abe to turn the system way up and it not distort, or you can just wire the speakers to the output from the head unit and itll be way better than stock and more than ikely satisfying being as you are asking for advice and dont have much experience LOL.

No I am the type of person that wants to do things right the first time (especially since my car is gutted right now and I can get at everything really easily)

So I could buy an amp like a 4 channel 400w and run 1 crossover to the rear and 1 to the fronts and tweeters?

Then my stuff will sound really good even loud?

Yes if everything is wired and tuned correctly. I also recomend a SMALL sub for a LITTLE bass. Ive had several systems since ive been driving. Anywhere from a few 10s to 15's that hit a 148 and i can assure you you will get tired of the bass. If you want to do it right the first time i recomend you buy some crossovers ( read reviews... mb quarts makes good crossovers. I have boston and they get the job done ), a small, multi channel amp for your door speakers and tweeters( Dont go insane and buy a 400 dollar 400 watt amp. Look around and get a good deal on an rf or alpine etc.) , an 8 or 10 ( something in the 250 watt rms range) and a mono block 300 watt amp for the sub. Then just tune everything to your liking.

Thanks, I plan on just doing the speakers and everything without the sub though for weight reasons and because I have methinjection in the trunk.

I want this to be like how more expensive cars come stock with nice awesome sound with no extra subs in the trunk.

I will look around for (2) crossovers and a new sub. Do I wire 1 crossover to the front and tweeters and 1 crossover to the rears?

If you want to keep/reuse the factory amp, you will need to get an adaptor, because the factory head unit uses a multi pin cable and not RCA plugs like an aftermarket unit. You should be able to get this adaptor from someplace like Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LCD TV, Digital Cameras. you could also get a 4 channel amp and run 2 pairs of RCA cables from the head unit to the amp and then run new bigger speaker cables to each speaker. Most new high quality amps will have all of the crossovers built in and adjustable. Also, a lot the new head units have adjustable crossovers built in too. I would look at something like an Alpine PDX 4.100 amp, it is last years model so it should be a bit less expensive, but it's compact, has a ton of adjustability and being a class D amp, it is not too bad on power consumption. As far as the tweeters, I got a pair of 6.75" 2 way component speakers for the front, so there will be a woofer. a tweeter and a crossover. I called JNZ tuning and got a pair of tweeter blank caps. These are the blank plastic covers that Mitsu used if the car did not come with tweeters. I drilled the correct size hole in them for my tweeter, mounted the tweeters and then dropped the wire down to the kick panels and put the crossovers in there. The tweeters sound really nice and look factory.

Well im sorry if this seems negative but it takes a lot more than buying new speakers to make a dsm sound quality as good as a modern factory system. 90% of sound quality in newer vehicles is their sound deadening which is damn near impossible to achieve in our cars. Run a crossover to each side. Basic cross overs have a mid and a tweeter option. I have 2 crossovers one runs my front left tweeter and door speaker and the other runs the right. I have 6x9's in the rear and i have them wired directly to my amp. None of my stuff distorts cause i have all the bass tuned out. Thats what the 8 or 10 is for. A single 8 in a small sound quality box weighs about 20 lbs and you can just unplug it when you dont want it in there. And itll only take up about 1 cubic foot.

Its fairly self explanatory. Juts look around the internet. The cross overs just take a signal feed from the amp like any normal speaker and you just run the wires from the crossover to the speakers. The amp just takes a power, ground, remote, and rca's. Try the internet first and if it still seems hard ill explain
