Any difference between cone filters?

There are a number of cone filters out for DSM's, the most popular choice being the K&N. Are other cone filters inferior to the K&N, or is a cone filter a cone filter?

pretty much any other aftermarket cone filter, are made with a protective mesh and high flow filter material that makes them resistant and reusable, but if you're talking about performance gains, you'll see the same on every single one of them, because eventhough it flows more air, you still have the MAS to stop the flow to a certain level... so yeah... a cone filter is a cone filter.

So is there any reason to pay twice as much for a K&N (I realize we're still talking about small monies in either case, but I like to get the best deal for my money). :)

k&n is reuseable, some arent, and ive read that you could let a k&n go to black on the outside, and airflow wouldnt be compromised that much
 i have a k&n and i like it. but never tried anything else

I have a "SNOW CONE FILTER"

Seriously, K&N is the best way to go, in my opinion. They are not about fads. They are about performance, quality, and availibility. If you go out and get a rokinsokinmoto filter who is gonna help you if you have a question about its flow abilities, or beable to replace it even sell you the cleaning solution if it's cleanable. K&N is not that expensive for a 1G anyway. I can't even think of a less expensive way to go. All the fad filters ( not for filtering fads, although neccessary ) I've seen are all a whole grip of money.

is there any way of cleaning those filters without purchasing any recharging kits or is that the only way?

erm, yes, the link above your post. I'm a little leery of how the test was controlled.

K&N filter soap is Formula 409, so that cuts half your cost if you can't swing the whole ten bucks.

I bought the Pro car parts filters for my 98 and my wife's 99 GST's and love them. Actually that link above is my former post when I was asking the same question that you are now. I don't mean to knock K&N but don't pay $100 for their name, my $18 dollar filter is just as good- it even pulls air in from the tip of the filter where the K&N is capped off so it probably pulls in more air. I know alot of people swear by K&N and I'm not knocking them, I just know that I have the cheap one and it's a good quality filter. Get it, you won't be let down. But like someone mentioned above- get the K&N look alike with the 4.5 inch adaptor. Those others look kinda cheesy.

Injen :p

well I don't know some people have switched over from K&N to Injen and like the Injen... now how they really preform is  . But I use one and I like it.
