2G airbag cover peeling up on passenger side

i bought my first eclipse recently and the only problem i have with the interior is that the airbag cover on the passenger side is peeling up and looks horrible. is this a common issue and an easy fix? i havent really looked at it yet but i was thinking id just pull it back into place and put some kind of adhesive on the back.

True but let me elaborate.

It is VERY common in a 2g that sits in the sun. Not as much for a garaged one, especially a heated/air conditioned one.

Anyway, you are going to want to get rid of the old glue and peel the whole thing off. I'd suggest a mid range heat gun and CONSTANT movement of the heat to avoid melting. You remove the glue with any number of glue removal products, I personally like Goo Gone but any should work.

The next step is cleaning the surface with something that does not leave residue, such as rubbing alcohol. The higher the alcohol content the better, but that is up for debate I'm sure.

After that you want to EVENLY apply a THIN coat across the ENTIRE area, I'd use something like a old store club card or a debit card you have but haven't gotten around to throwing away yet, to spread it smooth.

Once you have the glue done properly (avoid using quick dry or you may have to start over) clamp it down, then wipe off the excess glue with acetone or something else that will neutralize the glue you are using. Not a lot just a bit.

If you don't do it right you will be doing it again in a couple months, however if you want it to stick very well I would suggest using a fine grit sand paper to ruff it up a bit to give the glue something to adhere to.

It was bad on my 95. Windo-weld plus a 2x4 against the headrest. It didn't make it perfect, but it looked as good as any 2g I've seen.

i did a little research and a whole airbag assy from ebay or junk yard is around $40. seems a lot quick to just change it out.

Gorrilla glue and masking tape.. glue under where it peals and tape the whole bag top to bottom real tight and your set.. Easier than clamps IMO..

I tried 5 different methods and products.. GG was the way to go, over a year and a half later its money still..

I agree with gorilla glue. My driver side mirror is held on with screw and gorilla glue . Held up for two years, car washes and a 100 mph pass at the track.

I recently just got a new airbag out of a partout talon and took my old one out. I just used clamps, super glue, and super weatherstrip adhesive and it worked well. I just put alittle bit of weatherstrip adhesive around the warped edges and used a toothpick or plastic fork to get the glue down the cracks for extra enforcement. Clamp it down and let it dry over night then i'd add more around the seem to fill it in. Then let it dryed. Then went back with the super glue and filled in the rest of the cracks. Its still going strong and no more peeling.

I had this issue too. I put a little super glue under it and then put a towel and a brick on top of it to hold the airbag in place.

I know alot of honda guys delete them by removing the airbag all together. Password JDM makes carbon fiber covers. Does anyone know of a vendor that makes anything like this for the DSM?

the grey dash cover mounts onto a steel flip up lid for the airbag, if you glue it to this is wont affect airbag performance whatsoever. How ever dont deflect the steel plate ### it wont go back down once its lifted of the base. Unless you can bend it back but good luck. I replace my pass airbag with a mint condition one from the junk yard. I paid like $30
