Hey guys I just have a quick question about how to tell if my boost gauge is accurate? Im not sure if is or not. I don’t think it is because it reaches like 8 really fast when im not on the car that hard. I don’t know

1st gear 13psi
2nd gear 11psi
3rd gear 11psi
4th gear 12psi

Idle 20 vacuum :talon:

There are really no numbers to compare. Each turbo system does its own thing, and very subtle differences can make a couple pound's worth of boost difference.

Don't boost in first, it's not good for things.

Your numbers sound well in the healthy range of a stock motor.

And don't ever get stuck on numbers and needles in car work. You'll just drive yourself nuts while emptying out your wallet.

Those numbers do look close to what I had when I had my T-25, The vacuum I know for a fact is right around where it ought to be. As for the accuracy of the gauge itself it would be tough to tell on your particular setup, I mean any good boost gauge will get you within 1psi of where you need to be. Another thing to remember is where you have your boost source, the best place (from what I read ... correct me if im wrong) is right on the driver side outter most (toward fender) vacuum fitting. Im not positive but I believe it is the Fuel Pressure regulator line.

I believe that Defiant is just sayin that first gear is the easiest gear to break stuff in, I can't imagine breaking parts from boosting in first gear on a primarily stock setup (being that the cars are engineered to endure the factory torque and hp) but I guess taking it easy on the car can never hurt.

What do you mean dont boost in first?
You ever do that thing in the refrigerator where you go to pick up the carton of milk, and it turns out it's nearly empty and you slam it against the ceiling of the icebox?

You ever either step off, or step up onto a curb and it turns out you're at a gimp-ramp and there's no curb there, and you stomp all the way up your spine into the base of your skull?

That's what's going on with your engine's guts when you boost in first. There's not enough load on the drivetrain to "carry" the power, you wind up too quickly, the shift to second is that much more rough on the transmission, the throttle-closing is that much more hard on the turbine -BOV be damned- and just all around it's more stress than you need to impart.

It won't _kill_ things...

....this week.

Probably.

But some racers never finish. Things keep breaking.

It's not just the car's fault.

this is the most rediclous thing ive ever heard.

i dont think hes saying dont ever boost in first, hes just saying dont do it all the time, i mean ofcourse you have to boost in first when racing. and i would listen to this guy, he always seems to give accurate knowledge.

Exactly, listen to your car next time you launch. It really doesn't sound happy at full boost in first gear then that slam into second isn't any better for things in the long run. Obviously it's not made to do that every time you take off from a stop light. Just drive smart is all he's saying. Be nice to your car when you're not racing and whatnot and it will last longer. There you go, laymen turns...
