Hello, I'm new here just looking for some answers. I recently bought a 1997 Eclipse 2.0L Automatic(I know, i know). The guy I got it from said he ran it on the freeway and ran out of gas so it turned off on him. he put gas into the tank but no luck in starting. (this is the story i got from this guy) So i put about a half tank of gas and still no start. I replaced the Fuel pump and still cranks but not starting. I also got a new fuel filter but havent got around to installing that. I read on a thread here almost about the same problem and he replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter and turned on.. luckly no luck with me. I have tried the spark test and i am getting spark. Not even with starting fluid sprayed into the intake. No start with starting fluid, could it be that the fuel filter is clogged or can it possibly be that the crank sensor or cam sensor has gone bad? or just not getting any fuel into the engine? Im about to give up on the car or just junk it but dont want to just yet. I also found a 1999 Spyder with a 2.4 4g64 engine in it. was considering swapping out the 2.0 for the 2.4 but im not so sure with the work that will have to be done to get it to sit right. Im trying to figure out if i can just fix the 97' if its something simple.. any help or links will help so much. Ive tried researching on here but find so much that its leads off topic. Please and thank you!
What I would do, is unplug your spark plugs and each fuel injector connector, and pull the fuel rail off with your injectors still attached. Then plug in one of the injectors. Have someone crank your car while you hold a bottle or something under the plugged in injector to catch any sprayed fuel. This will let you know if fuel is at least reaching the rail. You could also repeat this for each injector to see if they are all working. Also if the previous owner was kind of sketchy with his story, maybe get under the car to see if the fuel lines got pinched somehow.
