I have a 91 non turbo but rebuilt motor with new pistons and a few basic mods. I have been researching nitrous in alot of articles and over the net. I see alot of nitrous=bad but i also see alot of positive nitrous added 110 hp and increased my 1/4 while i woop my friends a@&'s. I would love to see the second one. Since i dont want to turbo my engine due to lack of funds and problems nt to turbos have happen would it be smart to use nitrous in it? And how big of a shot could i use without blowing the motor? Basically whats the deal with nitrous on NT. Do it or dont?

Just looking at this as a possiblity.

Jeff

Oh ya do they make a kit I could use for a non turbo too? :talon:

Nitrous is really designed for normally aspirated engines, using nitrous on turbo cars came about in the last few (10-15) years but nitrous on a NA engine has been done since the 50's.

A good wet kit is your best option with a single nossle. Stay away from dry setups if possible though they do work and pretty well. A wet kit is safer to run and produces more consistant results.

Any motor can take a nitrous shot it's just how much. WHen guys blow up with nitrous it's because they get greedy with power and keep upping the shot. Most cars can take 20-25hp per cylinder if they are in top condition.

An NX kit comes with 35/50/75 hp jets which would be perfect for you. In a car I tested on the dyno the 35hp shot made 41hp and 66ft/lbs of torque and was in a low 15 second civic which took it to 14.1 only on that shot, so you can see the results are impressive.

I would say you could go as high as the 75hp shot with no problmes on your motor if it's rebuilt, but for normal daily nitrous use on the street a 50hp shot will be easier on the tires and stuff and not drain the bottle as fast, plus give you enough that your gonna beat most cars on the street.

A lower shot on the street is more fun cause guys don't know you turned it on. When you spray a huge shot on the street you can tell, tires squeeling, motors sound changes to real deep, takes off really fast etc.. So a lower shot is more covert.

I used to turn it on when I saw a vette or something coming along, but wouldn't be at WOT so the nitrous isn't spray, just armed the system. He would roll off the line then all the sudden mat it like they always seem to do while rolling. So I mat it too, but the nitrous is armed so it sprays when you mat it and you take right off, he doens't know a thing. When your a car ahead you let off then wave LOL. They just can't believe it. :sneaky:

ok thanks alot.

another question. I have done some motor work but could i hook up this kit sucessfully the right way? Or is professional instalation a must? Basically how hard is it to hook up the nos. And abotu how muc his the NX kit that good for my car.

Install is basic, just follow the instruction in the book to a T.

Here is one on ebay, $549. Search around and you can find them around. You want to find an EFI Stage 1 kit. It's just the name for the normal kit, also some times called an Import kit.

Thanks a lot. I am not to experienced with the whole nitrous deal. Is this system the one that goes through your air intake or your mainfold. Well i guess i will find out come spring when i fork up the cash for it. How much hp would a 75 shot add to a stock engine lets say?

Your being a great help.

Thanks A Lot,
Jeff

Single nossle like that kit is one nossle thats in your intake pipe with nitrous and fuel spraying out of the same nossle. It's split up to each cylinder just like air is in your intake manifold. Ones that go into the intake manifold for each cylinder is direct port. It's a lot more money and your minimum shot is 100hp (because there are four nossles).

A 75hp shot is gonna add around 80-90hp and like 140ft/lbs of torque. Start small and work up trust me.

Alright thanks alot. I have been looking into buyin a 2g turbo awd too. So either NOS or a new 2g cant decide. Thansk for all your help though. Its amazing how much you know about this.

Dude, that shits nothing. I setup separate fuel systems for nitrous with race gas on carburated fuel pressure and flowed fuel with a flowing fuel pressure analyzer while the car was running to set the fuel pressure flowing before jetting it to the nitrous kit. It was hell but made a serious setup that could run completely independent of the stock fuel system, on race gas only for the nitrous in a separate cell and running on really low carburated fuel pressure so we could run as low at 10hp per cylinder direct port. It was frickin cool...
