90 ECU in 91

A buddy let me borrow his ecu to see if that is my problem... I have a 91 tsi his car is a 90... I put it in and no start.... is there anything I have to do to get it to work? I think I read somewhere about swapping a couple pins out? is there an ez way to get the wire outa the harness without cutting wires

I searched a little and came up with swapping pins 6 and 14 but that was a 90 ecu in a 91 car. I'd search the subject a little more on the forum. There is plenty of info here.

it work's vice versa ... i used to run a 92 fwdt ecu in my old 90 awd with no problems (swapping pin 6 and 14)

I ran a 91 ecu in my 90 for a while and did not swap the pins while my 90 was being rebuilt. It idled a little funny but other wise it was fine. I wouldn't recommend it as a fix but if you swap the pins i think you will be fine. I read that the fuel maps are a little different.
