If i've read correctly, the 14b turbo cannot go lower than stock boost with just a boost controller? I was looking at a 91 tsi to buy, and the guy said he lowered the boost to 7psi for better gas mileage.

Correct me of i'm wrong, or please elaborate.

thanks

The guy is telling you a load of shit

either you get on the shit and go fast, or you dont.

SOunds like he is covering up a problem.

Ask him to "Turn it back up" so you can feel it

I will garuntee you he is lying.

the stock pressure on the Wastegate Actuator is 7 psi. if the Boost control solenoid is broken it would stop at 7 psi.

if he ran the hose from the turbo outlet directly to the wastegate actuator, that would make it open at 7 psi.

but people just dont do that.

If there is any Problems The ecu will cut boost. I would almost garuntee you there is someting Messed up and the guy has No idea why its hitting 7 psi. COuld be simple or a big problem

be wary

HAHAH oh man Go Back Kick him in his B.A. face and repeat after me

"Ill 7psi your @**"

Devon:mad: How did he get ahold of a dsm anyways:cry: Sadness

If he's reading that off the stock boost gauge, which would be the only way for him to think he knows the boost unless he has an aftermarket that tells him the actual or he had it tested, and its only going to 7 on there, then something is causing the boost to be restricted. Being as dumb as he is, he might have been running less than premium gas (cheaper! whoohoo!), which will cause excessive knock. This excessive knock causes the ECU to restrict boost, basically the only thing the stock gauge is good for as it will show you if boost is being pulled back. At least as far as i understand.

sounds like a song and dance to cover up the problem that he doesnt know how to fix (or what the problem is at that)

Keep looking around

its your money :D u have him by the balls:thumb:

While i've not worked with an MBC, i would conjecture you can indeed drop it below stock levels, however i sort of assumed there wasnt a boost controller of any sort. Guess i shoulda asked huh, however when the reasoning given is "for better gas mileage", i just can't really trust it too much. No one ever gets these cars and then de-tunes them for "better gas mileage".

The only way you could DROP the boost, would be to cut a hole in the hose running the the Boost control solenoid, so it could never pressureize.

and that is a boost leak my friend.

its obvious this guy is trying to shit on you.
Just take it as a lesson, and ask yourself what else is he lying about?
