Clownface has his turbos mixed up...The 14b was found on 1st gen. 5 spd cars and ran around 11 psi boost with 450cc injectors. The 13g was found on automatic cars and ran around 8 psi of boost with smaller injectors ( I believe around 350cc??). :rocks: :dsm:

ok i just had a 1g 7bolt installed into my 2g. (only reason is because i just had a new 7bolt cluch flywheel put in before motor blew) was it a wise choice or should i have dumped the new clutch and flywheel and popped in a 1g 6bolt.

There is nothing wrong with any of the motors. When my 7 bolt went I was going to go with a built 7 bolt but because of time and money constraints I went with a 6 bolt. Run what you have until it breaks and then worry about what you are going to do. Money, time, and the ability to do your own work (ties into time and money) will determine what you will want/need to do.

ok thanks. i just see many people either with a 1g 6bolt or 2g 7bolt and dont here to much about people with 1g 7bolts so i was jsut curious if i made a good choice.

You might not be mixed up, but you're wrong. I've had 6 1g dsm's they all had between 11-13 psi stock. I've tuned countless 1g dsm's and they all had between 11-13 stock. I don't know about the injectors and the 13g but the 14b on every car i have ever seen was 11-13. As for the 1g and 2g head/intake stuff. The 2g has smaller ports and higher velocity but it doesnt flow much more if any than a 1g. In a nutshell the 1g with it's larger ports will give you more topend power and the 2g will give you more torque in the low and midrange, but not as much topend.

wweellppp i could be wrong then haha. ill go ahead and bow out before i make a fool of myself LOL. perhaps the turbo i had was somehow different, had a different spring or something i dunno.

The factory HP ratings are a bunch of crap...almost as much of a marketing gimmick as they are a legitimate measurement of engine output. All things equal, I doubt strapping a bone stock 1G and 2G to the chassis dyno at the same time would show a 15-20 whp advantage in the 2G's favor.

The cars run about the same time stock and the 1G has an obvious weight advantage so I wouldn't be so quick to throw factory HP ratings out the window.

I did a 6bolt swap before my 7bolt even stopped working... actually it ran great but when i took the timing belt cover off and checked the crank i could move it back and forth alot so i just went ahead.

Actually 1gs run 9psi
and 2gs run 12psi

Stock

See i think theres alot of confusion on this topic.......can we get someone with a alittle DSMtuners credit to come out with the correct info????

the correct answer at least for 1G's is that they can operate in a small range of boost pressures, from about the 9-10 psi spring setting on the wastegate, to 12-13 psi when the BCS is bleeding off some of the pressure the wastegate sees. 2G cars are probably similar in that they have a "factory" boost controller to compensate for good or bad engine conditions.

Im breaking in with stock boost right now. Im running 9psi at the MOST. I have a stock 14b also, I dont know what the spring is set at, as my WG starts to open at 5psi... :| I can open it part way with a can of air duster. Guess my spring's just worn out or somethin... :|

I can confirm that this statement is correct. -Having an AT 1Gb (92-94)... I have seen the MT stock boost to be about 12-13psi on a friend's 14b powered car, while my AT was about 8-9 on the 13b stock.

And yes, the AT turbo 1Gs had grey topped 390cc injectors from the factory.

Your profiles says you have a big 16g, those turbos wastegate springs may be set for the 12 psi area, however this is not a stock car.
My boost gauge was reading 11.5-12lbs when she had a 13G and was completely stock. I don't have a boost controller so my BCS keeps it in that area. :talon:

Im confused as to what the question is. If Defiant saw this thread, he would prolly close it as there is so much hearsay and unknowns being said.

youve now stolen the "most useless reply in this thread" award. congrats.

Keep in mind of the differences between the early first gen versus the later first gen T/E/Ls... Also take into consideration the differences between Federal spec DSMs, and the CA Spec models. -These factors might account for possibly different boost levels that were set by the factory for different years & locations.

(Not that any of this was some how related to the original post) :)
