First off, please do not give me the "newbie" rap, this is a serious question that i would like to ask and get responses to.

I will be upgradeing my small 16g, to a evo 16g. The reason im doing this is to keep my setup and not have to deal with new Ic pipes and what not. Anyway i am running a set of 550's in the car now, i run no logger (dont get me started on get a logger crap) So i cant go out and test Duty cycle or anything like that, without calling a freind with a logger.

The question at hand is will 550's be enough to trap above or at 115mph and run into the 11s without fear of running out of fuel in a full weight 2g?

Most people now a days are running at least 650's with almost any turbo they get, so im just wondering if the 550's will be enough for my goal. Also my car as it sits right now has gone 12.1@112mph, so i dont think 11's is out of reach for me on the evo 16g (done bench racing)

Thanks,
Kyle

my friend went 11.7@118 on a 1g big16g,vpc,afc2,dsmchip,ross 9:0.1s stock rods, and some good old 550s,and car was tuned on a wideband.

I have went consistant 12.0 12.1s on 550s with 2g piston vpc setup,on a crappy starion front mount

Any idea what the IDC was on those pass's? I can knock off consistant 12.1-12.2s on them no problem with tuning on a wideband

It was acually pretty high, dont remember what...but my old setup had some fuel delivery problems, and i had a barometric check engine light for awhile so i was always at 100% fuel trims which sucked......As long as you can get it tuned on a wideband/and log it you should be ok on race gas 23-25psi.Theres a local guy in the pa area on a 20g going low low 11s on 550s with a 20g tort20g or something is his name on here

Well on the dyno i wil have the wideband and a logger, i just dont use it on the street b/c personaly i think its a waste of money. 2gs trasmit so slow that its almost a waste to even look at the timing unless you have some real AFR to look at too. Ill just stick it out with the 550's and see if they work. If i can get a good consistant AFR and timing curve then they work. If not ill get some 650's or somthing. Thanks for your input.

Unless you are running DSMLink, you can't log IDC through the OBD-II. So you really won't have any way to know when you are running out of fuel.

I always recommend that you have more fuel than is required to support the maximum airflow of the turbo you are running. Seeing as how it is relatively easy to max out 550's with an EVO-III you should probably upgrade. That way if something happens to the WG and you don't immediately notice the problem, you will have plenty of fuel on hand so that you don't melt a piston. Because of that I would recommend that you go with 650's or 660's.

Take that for what it's worth. You know what they say about opinions...... :p

are you interested in running 110 octane fuel?

the car see's nothing but 110, 112 or c16 on race day. I will probably tune on 110 since the others two are rather expensive.

Also i am not running dsmlink at this time. Only tool i have avaible for tuning is the afc :(
But it has been good to me so far.

Shape maxxed out his 550's when running 115+ on his Evo3, so I'm thinking you will too.

Thats what i was thinking, the only other problem is that with the 650s and only a afc to tune them. Will i get too much timing advance from taking out that much fuel? I guess if that happens i can finally socket my eprom ecu and get a chip for 650's. Thanks for your help guys.

I have a friend who ran 550's with his td06 20g and was only at -20 on his afc. As long as you are not overrunning your fpr or have an adjustable fpr, i think 550's can go a lot further than what most peeps think. If your IDC's are getting a tad high, bump up the fuel pressure. Wasnt Leon Rietman the guy who went low 11's on 550's?

I was thinking about this today also. But then i would need to buy a FPR and if i was going to do the FPR i would swap out my walbro 190 with the 255HP. So i think ill just grab the injectors and play it safe.

By chance do you know what your car weighs? and or the IDC on this pass?
At that time I was around 3300 with me in it and 100% idc at 27psi on 116 gas

with piggyback systems(minus dsmlink) running at 100% duty cycle is the best. At least that way you know where your timing will be at all times instead of just guessing around with a logger and trying to battle so much fuel for a turbo like a 16g. I'd say keep going until you see that the injectors just arent flowing enough and your running lean.

I wouldnt say 100% is the best for injectors but, i will agree with the keep going untill i run out of fuel. I get dyno tuning cheap, the only expensive part is buying race gas to tune on. Total with race gas and however long im the awd dyno cost me around 80 bucks. Nice being somewhat freinds of the owner of the dyno.

I had some 650's on my evo III and it made it miss fire like a bastard. The afc could not keep up. Switched to the 550's and didn't have a problem

What the AFC couldnt keep up? WTF

Yeah, please explain, I am trying to go Evo III and I was thinking 650 just to have a safety cushion. What happend to the SAFC????

I'm also thinking of swtiching my 550's for some FIC 650's, but my worries is that the AFC won't be able to control the injectors and that going DSM Link would be alot better. but going DSM Link is very expensive.. So I'm not sure if I should stick with my 550's or go up with 650's.. With my Evo III turbo.. I feel I can get more kick out if it, if I got bigger injectors..

Well i got the 650cc injectors just to be safe. And since i have a Eprom ecu i went ahead and purchased a DSMCHIP chip for the 650's. So tuning should be good with the afc. Ill let you guys know how it goes.
