4-bolt automatic gear ratio change

Is it possible to convert an automatic 4-bolt so it has the correct gear ratio for a 5-speed?

I have a 4-bolt automatic rear end and an extra 5-speed 3-bolt. I'm wondering if it is possible to swap the ring and pinion to make a 4-bolt for my 5-speed car?

Both differentials are good working pieces, so I am hesitant to tear them apart before I know for sure that a conversion is possible.

Not really, just the usual "I heard it was easy to do" or "I knew someone who talked to someone who did this conversion"

I just gave up and found a 5-speed 4-bolt to use.
