What is the difference between the 3 inch gm mas and the 3.5 inch gm mas in performance? Which is "better"? is there a differnece?
thanks

I don't think anyone has conclusive performance data between the two. As far as I know the 3.5 offers only the following diffrences..

-Slighly less Pressure drop then the 3in
-Possable higher peak HZ signal
-Mapping/Settings to map the GM to Mitsu sensor

I don't have a list of the vehicals the 3.5in MAF came in, but the 3in maf list is quite long and are pretty easy to come by. I picked my 3in GM MAF up for $8 at the local junk yard..

A 3.5 will flow more air but you have to making gobs of power to make a 3" into a restriction.

I agree. In my understanding, the 3 inch GM MAS will be more than enough for most applications.

Unless you're in the 600+, 700+, or 800+ horsepower range, you should not even consider the 3.5 inch GM MAS as a viable option.

Why do vendors sell it? Because they are hoping that the consumer will not do the homework and will simply buy the product because it is slightly larger. The mindset is something like "Who would want a dinky 3 inch GM MAS when you can get the 3.5 inch?" While this may work on some ignorant fool just starting to modify his ride, an intelligent individual who does the research and asks questions will find that the 3 inch will satisfy most people's needs.

I think the size difference of the 3.5 on most intercooler piping might actually add some turbulance to the flow.

Either way the 3" seems to fit nicely on 2.5" piping and even with the honey-combs/screen still in it does not appear very restrictive.
