I have a 1994 eclipse base model. 1.8l fwd. and i am tired of how slow it is. what are some mods i can do to it for gain hp?
And
is there a way to swap the sohc head to a dohc? difficulty?

Get bigger fuel injectors, get a REAL cold air intake( meaning separate it from the hot engine and add air duct for cold air outside), bigger down pipe, make the car lighter, adjust throttle cable, clean the engine with seafoam. Or you can just swap engine (Which is where most of the fun is anyways LOL)

I have a short ram intake but not cold air. what down pipe would you suggest? where can i get seafoam?
what Would an engine swap cost? what engine would you suggest?

A 2.5 inch downpipe will be enough. Cheapest brand would probably be megan racing. You can order seafoam online, just google it.
Depends on who does the swap. Engine? 4g63t :p
Unless you want to go with something else (like sr's or jz's)but I don't know how much custom work that would require, not to mention it would be more expensive.

thanks. :thumb:

about the swap. would the 4663t dropright in place or what mods will i have to do?? minor or major? what all would i need for it new axles??

You don't have a downpipe... That motor is not turbo'd. You have headers leading to an exhaust system. You could buy new headers or a new exhaust system. Chances are you can find something on ebay for ~$200 or you could get it done at a local shop for a little more.

You could theoretically swap to the 4G63T motor (which is turbo'd) if you wanted to. My guess is that would cost $2000+ depending on the motor's condition and mods.

Seafoam is a fuel system cleaner. You can buy it at any autoparts store. Won't make the car "faster" unless it is really clogged up with carbon.

And if you do a new intake, make sure you don't hydrolock your motor by sticking on the ground and driving through a puddle.

And take ramsack's advice. New fuel injector's won't do anything unless you buy a turbo for your car. A whole turbo set-up (16G, FMIC, fuel injectors, pump, turbo manifold, exhaust system) will probably cost as much as swapping in a 4G63T motor.

thanks. well im a little confused. Are you saying it would be better to buy all that or swap the engine??
and my car is a sohc i want a dohc can i do a head swap? Difficulty?

you could turbo the 1.8, its been done. not so sure about cost or reliability though.
some of these posts about 1.8 turbo projects might be worth a read.

turbo -

I honestly think the time and effort to turbo a NT is not worth it. I would sell the car and buy a slightly modded or stock, if you can find it, 1g.
