well heres the deal, my friend threw a rod on her current engine. Ross pistons, shot peined rods, balanced when rebuilt. she wanted to buy an eagle rods/ross pistons combo ($750) and have the engine rebuilt. 1 rod and piston = totally fuxored. however, we did think about a completley new block and found this:

The block, crank, and rods have been magnafluxed, tanked and baked.

All new bearings have been installed, and the block was bored and honed for
new '95 pistons and rings (the bore was matched to the actual measurements
of these pistons), and mounted onto 1g big rods (modified to accept the 2g
pistons). The crank has been polished and all machine work and complete
assembly has been performed by a professional shop. It's ready to drop in.

plus balance shafts removed and ARP rod bolts, for 1100 shipped. thinking this may be a better deal than the rebuild. we are planning about 20 PSi on a t3/t4 50 trim, hopefully hitting 12s, pushin 400ish crank. would this engine be ok? or should we go w/ the forged rebuild?

thnx

nothing wrong with that setup, except you dont know who built the motor and what was ####ed up. Unless its not a private party, but a reputable shop selling it(FP, buschur, magnus etc) which I doubt, I wouldnt go for it. But thats just me, I usually dont like to trust other people's work when it comes to my car.

You can easily do 12's on 1G rods/2G piston combo. That's what I got. I've seen 11 sec with that setup also.

A good quality machinist knows that the only way to bore a block is to measure each piston then bore and hone the block accordingly, they make this sound like is something not done except by NASCAR or something. :p I would consider rebuilding it yourself if you have the correct tools and patients to do it, that way you know what goes into it and if it fails you know who to place the blame on.
