I recently aquired a 1990 Eclipse GS 2.0 and have been looking into my tuning options.I am trying to make this a daily driver with a little pep. I found that the only exhaust system is the Pacesetter/Monza cat back system. Does anyone have this system? I just dont want to spend a couple hundred on exhaust and have it sound all ricey. I am looking for something that helps with the hp and gives a goood growl after 3000rpm or so, not an annoying honda civic sounding rice exhaust that will give me a headache driving around town. any thoughts? :dsm:

I would go with some custom piping from a local muffler shop and a good quality muffler and resornator, that would be the best way to go if you want to stay away from the raspy sound. :dsm:

yup, custom is the way to go with 1g n/t dsm's. most local muffler shops can make you some cat back piping for about $100. just proved a muffler and resonator, and you got yourself a good exhaust, for cheap. Also, for intake, some muffler shops will also make you an intake pipe, and then you just get the k&n filter and connectors, and you gots yourself a cheap, and good intake! And if you want to be illegal, take out your cat and pound all the crap out of it. again, not legal, but its a free mod. do that at your own risk. :p

i have pacesetter/monza on my 1.8 ------>sounds good, gives it a tiny bit of go, kills ur gas mileage tho....any q's pm me

i have that exhaust on my 1.8 sounds good, gave me alot better gas milage but i also put in a hi flow cat, feels like a hole new car! :thumb:

best cheapest way to get exhaust, you have 2 solutions,

1.) punishment racing headers, turbo 2.5 downpipe, gst catback from rnr 2.5 inches.

2.)pacesetter headers portted to clean em up, pacesetter downpipe, and pacesetter catback with muffler chopped off and any uni muffler you wnt welded on. the pacesetter exhaust sounds like some duck is stuck in the muffler tryign to get otu screaming for help every time you hit the gas.

id go with number one as pacesetter headers are ok, but paint comes off very easily

I installed pacesetter headers, took it for a drive around the block and by the time i got back there was a trail of smoke following me. Yeah, try not toget the painted ones. Pacesetter gets shit on alot but their newer products are alot better than they used to be.

the reason you had smoke is the paint on them has to be slowly baked on. i let mine idle for 30 min then took it to wawa. barely smoked on the way to wawa. while it was in my driveway though. omfg i had smoke.

the one thing abotu pacesetter is there welds are crap. i mean they hold but the excess is all in the ports. not good. this is what i took out on mine the last car i had. i ported em out and matched em to gasket so they would flow nice, great gains.

im gettin another n/t and i may use pacesetters again. if i do ill post pics

id guy pacesetter headers again if i needed too. unless the punishment headers are proven power adders. man the smell from the headers paint coming off alone made me sick.

Pacesetter is a good company for the money.
And as for the smoke and paint coming off.... If you read the instructions on the painted headers, it will tell you that it is NOT a permanent paint... it is mearly a light painting to keep the product from coruding during storage and is expected to burn off with the first few hours of use. I personally have the Pacestter ceramic coated header on my N/A, and am very happy with it. I did however, clean up the welds on the inside of the header.

yea thats a bi*** man. i was there for abotu 1 1/2 hours with a dremel and a good bit cleaning up those welds. they are really sloppy. but once you port em out all nice they are a godo header. plus i liek the 4-2-1 setup over the 4-1

yea self not::: dremel makes a ceramic tile bit that looks liek a weird a$$ drill bit that is awesoem for porting with a steady hand. worked great for me

Pacesetter is by far the worst company I have ever seen. I had their header and exhaust. I re-welded the header about 4 times because it kept breaking. The fit is crap, the finish is crap, and the quality is crap. The flanges warp and the welds crack/break. The exhaust sounded like a chainsaw, didn't fit at all, and provided nothing for power gains. The hanger brackets didn't line up at all, and the pipe always vibrated against the frame rail. I bought the Borla SS headers (450.00) and they're worth every penny, Fit and finish is top notch. I just got a nice twin tip Naxos muffler and put it on the stock exhaust, much nicer then the pace setter POS, feels strong and sounds great. If you buy pacesetter I will come to your house and kill your dog. :thumb:

this coming from a guy who recomends a naxos muffler.

dude its naxos, you can take the damn pacesetter exhaust, cut the muffler off,and weld on any damn universal 2 1/2 muffler they make. then you have a custom manderl bent exhaust for abotu $350.

get pounishment header and damn gst 2.5 downpipe

but for god sake dude ditch the naxos

So what's wrong with the naxos? It looks good, sounds great, and is good quality...I don't see a problem. I have the borla Stainless headers incase you didn't read the previous post, so I'm perfectly happy with the exhaust setup. I don't believe you're in any position to tell me how I should build my car... :dsm:

swap.jdm 4g63 n/t daily driver... wanna do some mods but dont really know what i can do. help please thanks
