1g MAF help

Need some opinions from you guys. Rebuilt a 92GS and if the MAF is plugged in it runs like crap. Spits sputters backfires and wont idle. If I unplug the MAF it runs like a charm. I know it is not good to run with the MAF unplugged but what could cause this? It worked fine on the car before the build but it had a lot of parts thrown on it. I don't wanna replace it if that is not the problem. What else could cause this? I have done a pressure test and got no vac leaks. Timing is dead on and its getting good fuel and spark. Are you getting a CEL? Try another MAS?

No CEL Until it warms up which i think is being caused by a bad O2 sensor. I wanna make sure there is no other possible fix before I spend money on the MAS

Are you saying there IS a CEL present? If so, check the codes and fix it.

There is no CEL until it gets to normal temp. This is being cause by a bad O2 sensor.

Just want to make sure but is the car your rebuilt a turbo model or an N/T? If you have an N/T I have no clue but if you have the turbo model, make sure that you are recirculating the BOV to the intake and not to atmosphere.

Also before you spend any money, I would see if anyone around you has an intake you could borrow to swap in real quick to see if maybe it is just your MAF. I would also change out that O2 sensor to make sure that it isn't the cause of throwing off the system with bad/conflicting numbers with the MAF.
