Hey guys!

Ok, I know there are tons of posts regarding this issue but I cannot find what I'm looking for.

Here is my dilemma or question..
I just found out that will be able to get a 1G 4g63 engine from a Talon 1992 including both the head and the block. There is something wrong with it, but dont know what it is as of yet. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow.

So my question is, what modifications do I need to do if I use the whole engine, both the head and the block from the 1G into my 1997 Eclipse Spyder GST? I know there are posts about using a 1G block and 2G head, but if I have the whole engine, what modifications do I need to do?

I would appreciate all your guys help. Thanks

There's plenty of posts on swapping the head as well. I don't have any direct links to the posts, but here's step by step instructions on RRE's website. I know it may sound a bit complicated, but its not really that hard.

2g to 1g head swap

good luck!

Isnt that if you put a 1g head on a 7 bolt block? Sorry, Im new to this and just trying to figure everything out. My neighbour is the one who is going to do the work, I just need to find out everything that needs to be done...

So, Im going to install a whole 1G engine into a 97 Eclipse Turbo. any website that has that kind of info? Couldnt find it at roadrace...

Thanks

Actually it could be  ...I'm not sure. I'm in the middle of swapping a full 6-bolt into my 2g GSX and I'm swapping the head in as well. The only complications I can see as of right now is the CAS sensor. The 1g motor doesn't have a crank angle sensor, so to make the 2g ecu happy, it needs to get a signal. This signal can be obtained by tapping into the cam angle sensor on the 1g head. There are several sites that give diagrams of the wiring you have to do. If you are looking for info on the modification on just the block, here are some good sites:

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/1g2gheadswaptechtip.htm

http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/1g2g.asp

the RRE one says to modify the front case of a 7-bolt motor, however other sites say to just keep the 6-bolt front case. Sounds easier to keep the 6-bolt one IMO, so I'm going with the Magnus method.

Just follow some of the links on the site to get to the wiring part for the 1g head.

So, if I understand this right, the only thing I need to do is some wiring and tapp a hole for the CAS sensor, or is there more to it? Also, how about the engine mounts? New to this, sorry that I ask so many questions. thanks for your help!

Yea, the engine mount just needs to have a bit of its corner trimmed off so it will fit next to the 1g water pump. Just kinda eye it and start grinding it down till it will fit

Since your using the 1g head, you'll want all the timing belt parts (tensioner, belt, etc) for a 1g. You do want to keep the power steering and a/c off of the 2g, not sure about the alternator.

I haven't done the head wiring yet, but from what I understand, you've got it right. Maybe someone with some experience in the head swap can chime in here.

wh :thumb: :thumb: ats happening guys!!! I am just about done doing my 1g into a 95 fwd tsi and have worked out just about every problem out and if you got any questions i might be able to help. Oh yeah not sure if you know this by know rre makes a "plug n play wiring kit for the swap I think for 97 as well..

Yeah i am interested in this too, all of the links show either using 2g block or 1g head only, i need help with putting the whole engine in.

Let me know if i am missing something:

Complete 1g engine w/CAS
RRE plug and play harness

Things i already have from my 7-bolt:
A/C compressor
P/S pump
Alternator

Can't i use my 2g's timing belt? It is less than 8,000 on it.

Ok so what else do i need?

I know i need to modify the mount and that should be all for dropping it in.

Thanks
