Hey peeps, I just bought a 95 eagle talon esi with a 420a engine, I have a friend that wants to sale me his turbo kit from an Evo, its the stock turbo kit that the car came with from the factory. What would I have to do in order to use this turbo on my Talon with it hurtting my car. I guess what I am asking is Where do I start my build, and is the 16g turbo a good or bad idea for my type of car? That one question, another is I have a light on my dash that looks like a birdcage, what does it mean and how do I get it off. My last question is if I wanted to gain a little more power out of my engine what mods can I do that are not that expensive but produce some gain in Hp? Mods that are on my car

Strut towl bar in front, tension bar in the back. Engine mods N/A... Other than the bars, my car is completely stock.

I have been looking for answers but havent found any yet

You can't really make a N/A car fast with bolt on mods. The light on your dash is most likely your coolant level light. For the turbo you would have to get a new exhaust manifold, down pipe, intercooler, oil lines, BOV, injectors, fuel pump, and a way to tune. I believe you would need to build your engine also to handle the stock WG pressure but I've never dealt with boosting a 420a so this is just food for thought.

Anyway welcome to the site and good luck with your build! Make sure you take care of all maintenance before you start dropping cash on upgrades.

First building a 420a motor for turbo the right way will not be cheap. I personally didn't think it was going to cost what I put in but hey I love my car.:hellyeah::hellyeah:

StarFawkes is right on target on what you need to start with. Do your research on the parts you can afford and make sure you get the most compatible parts as then there will be less of a need for custom parts which can save some. If you can start at a budget of about $2000 you can get alot done to start (block machining, head work ie valves springs port n polish, fuel pump, fuel injectors, fmu, ignition, exhaust) and this as you can see has no turbo parts in it at all.

After you would get it all said and done you will love your car but it just takes time and a decent amount of money. Have fun with the build cause that it what it is all about.

The above are correct..

1. NO, that turbo system will not fit without alot of headache. People who by evos and already turbo'd cars, dont understand how they work , or the fact that its not a "both this on and go faster" deal.. They just dont understand what it takes to get to that point, but thier pocket book does.

Anyway. Building a bottom end for boost is very pricey. i quote most Ppl 3-4K. I build on the Cheap fast Reliable (pick 2) aspect, guess which 2 i pick LOL. I would plan on spending that in just te bottom end, keep in mind, there is more you can do to the head, but thats extra cash.. and not nessacery depending on your goal.

Then there are transmission Upgrades one should do, depending on thier goal, they can range 1500+, again depending on goal.

The 420a isnt a motor for those who want to go junk yarding and find a tubo to bolt on. Fuel is the key to being able to even boost. You can boost on stock internals etc, but its one of those grenade things, never know when its gunna go up.. Gl and do research and ask reasonable questions. thats the most important thing you can do at this stage.. 420as are pricey to build (correctly). Thats a fact.

defintly build your bottom end, sell the evo stuff for some extra cash cus its useless for your car, id keep the injectors though if you get those, also looking into tuning, id go megasquirt if i was you, good luck, :thumb:

How can u put 3-4 k in the bottom end in a 420A motor I don't get it.
With machine work and all parts ## not getting to 2k.
I mean if u can share I would love a crank upgrade then, because that then would add up.
Most expensive from what I've seen is :
rods 700+
Pistons 600
Bearings main + rod 140
Main studs 170ish
Tank +bore+hone 250
And that's what I have seen available on the most expensive side
I would love more work done to my bottom end before I reassamble it would love your input.

if you add in all the other little things it takes to put the bottom end together you will hit that 3-4k mark and depending on your area i wouldn't trust any machine shop who charges you 3-400 dollars less than all other shops.

700+ for rods WTF, call me crazy but I've seen eagle rods go for 400 new LOL.

right LOL i bought eagle rods for a little under 400 and je pistons were only 450 with rings but i was in good with my parts guy. it does cost money, alot more then you would think but 3-4k isnt a bad estimate on a engine build. i went all out but you dont always have to.

There aren't a bunch of random extra parts in the bottom end. Crank, rods, pistons, rings, bearings, oil pump. You are looking at around 350 bucks to bore the block, deck clean block and balance bottom end, 700-750 for pistons, rings and rods, 100 for bearings, 200 for an oem oil pump, 100+100 for line bore (if you want arp's, which aren't required)and a bottom end gasket set for 60 bucks There are no more parts in the bottom end that what is listed. For all that you get to a grand total of around 1,660 dollars. I don't in any way see how you could spend double that on parts that aren't even existent in the bottom end of an engine.

Personally I went with eagle, but you can get crower rods for 780$ I was just trying to get to how do u get 4k in the bottom end. Because by my calculations u can build a pretty good Turbo motor for 4k. Little over a grand for bottom same for top and lets say a grand for misc.

I meant for the engine not just the bottem end.

You could go with a set of aluminum rods or even a set of Oliver rods and the rods alone are over 900 dollars. Deff not saying its 4k in the bottom end on the 420, but with aluminum rods, custom piston, machine work on the block(lets say a deck, bore, notching for the bigger rod, and line honing the mains if using studs) it can get a little more pricey.
