I saw a video online of this guy using a 1G dsm radiator for his 420a turbo motor and was wondering if I should do the same or stick with a mishimoto one? Obviously the 1G requires some modifications to fit and the engine has to have some hoses rerouted but i want my community’s input instead of asking chatgpt

The lower hoses are on opposite sides on the bottom. What are you trying to accomplish? Just want a new radiator or what?

I want better cooling. 420a motors already get super hot before turbo. Mine is turbo’d with an egr delete so i want to make sure my engine doesn’t overheat. Modification is required obviously and the guy in the video shows how to do it but again, Im asking the community thats been working on these cars for over 30 years now

Is this the same youtuber who used a 1G radiator in a 420a 2G with Neon piping for the coolant if im not mistaken? Youtuber in question was Nitrokid98 and his video was “Every 420a Eclipse Needs This Mod!!!” right? If so i’d bet he probably has an account on here, but i don’t know for a fact

Yea it was him. Just wanted to see if anyone else has done this and if its worth the extra trouble

I wouldnt be surprised if he was the only one who did that. If you really are concerned about your engine heating up it probably wouldnt hurt to try reaching out to him for all the specific details he left out of his video. Given the only image i see of your 2G is your pfp i might suggest looking into a vented hood to let the heat have an escape from the engine bay, just some food for thought.

You could always swap your thermostat to a 160 degree. That's what I did and even at 8k rpm the manifold would get red hot before the temp gauge even reached half. I wouldn't do that in something driven in sub zero temperatures, but for a southern climate it was a great mod and I ran a stock replica plastic tank radiator.

Ive been looking into those aswell but haven’t found any 420a specific ones. Is there a substitute i can use or am I just not looking hard enough?

You got a parts number i can search for or has it been too long since then?
ModernPerformance has a few different thermostats of which i think the 2G can use, although i think they’re geared primarily toward the Neon, im not 100% sure if they’re compatible. Might be worth checking out, you can also send them a question if you have any.
