How much is engine bay temp supposed to effect cabin temp via vent air?

Air set to coolest, without AC, is really warm compared to outside air(tested with hand out the window). I can see why it would be warmer to some degree but... so is this a common problem -with a solution hopefully?

Hand out the window when driving or stationary? This will make a huge difference.

Even in a brand new car the coldest setting without ac is still just ambient air that gets pulled thru the vents so yes it will pick up some heat.

If its noticeably hotter than outside it could be even though the knob is showing the lowest setting it is actually stopping some where on the warmer side. Also do you still have the firewall heat shield on your car.

don't know but I'll look into both. thanks

Also, check your hood, There should be a weather stripe at the back of the hood which it shots the hood.
If the weather stripe is not there, the hot air from the engine will pass through the air vents and will be sucked in by the fan.
The vents are at the wipers location, so the hot engine air will go through the vents, also the fire wall has something to do with the heat passing to the cabin.

Flip the knob to recirc. This will close the outside air inlet.

Do you have the heat selector all the way to heat (red), per chance and the air select to "face"...what it sounds like?

Do the "60mph with windows down" for the 'poor man's AC' trick.

Sorry, I was talking about the rear (Hood) weather strip.
Here is a pic showing the weather strip (red line), If you don't have it, It will allows the hot air from the engine to pass through the vents (Blue arrows).
Hope you understand now.
