Ok, my friend owns a 95gst with 160k on it and the turbo just went. So he went and bought a 16g. Now the question is. What do we need to install this on his car? He got it for only 50 bucks so he couldn't pass up the deal. And the thing is he's broke so what do we need to do to put this in?

well, since the 2g's didnt come with a j pipe on their turbo setups, then you need whats called a 1g conversion kit.. it basically re routes your piping to make it fit.. they arent too much money, and you may be able to fab most of it..

well the main thing to buy would be the install kit of the 16g. but wit hthe car having 160k on it i would suggest making sure the head is properly fuctional and a multilayer head gasket for a lil more boost.
i also believe you need a downpipe for the turbo. but i might be wrong on that.. my turbo bit the dust to and in the same process that you are.

No it's like in mint condition. I heard that you need to cut some coolant line because the 16g don't use them.

nope.. 16g's are all oil bearing and water cooled.. you may have to route some new tubes in it.. i never owned a 2g

my bad on the name.. i forgot its called an install kit.. LOL.. but yeah.. you need that.. the turbo and manifold will bolt up, but your piping wont route to the turbo like it did the stock one..

This will probably sound crazy...but if your using the stock 2G side mount intercooler.....go to Lowes.....I have a friend who piped up a 16G with high pressure PVC pipe for like 35$ and it holds 15psi all day long, he used pvc couplers too which to be quite honest I would have used if i had known because they are thicker, cheaper, and more durable than the specter couplers i bought........go figure...

intercooler piping or just intake?

He will want to re wire his fuel pump so he can get 14 volts out of it instead of 9 Which is free and will give the stock injectors a little more bang, tho he should really get some fuel injectors to get the most out of that 16g (nothing too crazy)

He ended up getting like 6ft piece of black Hot water pvc pipe, two 45degree angles for the Turbo to intercooler and like 4 more 45deg. and a couple 90deg. pieces and went from there......I will have to take some pictures and post that crap......i was amazed it didnt blow to shreds....that was 3 months ago

::EDIT:: The angled pieces were couplers Im sorry...they are like twice as thick as a regular coupler, and they bend some really easy to work with.

yes.. this is a very free mad, and makes a GREAT difference, as your fuel pump is only getting half the volts it needs to run at capacity

but yeah.. you will have to eyeball it.. just search "diy 1g install kit" or something to see some pics of it

Here's a couple of pics of the turbo, it looks kinda small to be a 16g let me know what you think.

And there are 12 blades on the intake side. And my friend wants to know if it will bolt right up to a 1g? With out mods?

Im not really good with looking at turbos and know which specific kind they are but if that is a e316g then It should bolt right onto it.Correct me if i'm wrong anybody. Of coarse you will need supporting mods to get what you can out of it and if you are running high boost you will need supporting mods to avoid a fuelcut. You can search all this in the forums, these questions have been answered many many many times.

That's not an Evo 3. It was that cheap because it's an Ebay turbo.

An Evo III 16g would have MHI printed on it and the ebay 16g's have that telltale "TURBOCHARGER" text printed on them just as that one does.

Yea that is a ebay 16g for sure! Since he got the turbo already and if it works why not put it on for now since his turbo is missed up and don't got money for a new one. I just did a evo 3 turbo instill in my 2g with a 16g instill kit i got from extremepsi.com and iam using a punishment racing fmic. Here are sum pictures of the evo 3 turbo. Iam using the stock manifold and 02 housing still i can get sum thing better but is working perfect for now.

There is a good chance the turbo won't last, but it most likely won't hurt your car. Just don't push the turbo too hard. If I were you and really wanted a decent turbo, I would install that turbo and save up for a real MHI 16g. Hopefully you would be able to get one before you have any issues with the one from Ebay.
