fab intake to turbo

just wondering,
i was looking on road race engineering,
i believe is the website, and i seen they rigged up an intake by;
cutting off some of the accordian flexible stuff, and stuck a pipe in the hole and used a hose clamp to tighten it down, then ran the other half into the turbo.

i was wondering, has anyone ever done this??
is it a better way to go than buying a 150$+ intake?
im not caring about looks,
i just want a few more ponies, and maybe a louder turbo spool =D

anyways, thanks in advance!

eBay intakes for $40 do the job well on a 16g/t-25 series.

I don't think you would really gain anything by doing that (from what I could understand of your description).

I would just buy a cheap intake if you really want one. Or just hack your airbox open.

I used a silicone coupler and a section of an old Pacesetter exhaust, works fine. I had a generic ExtremePSI intake (similar to the Injen) years ago, but didn't notice any difference in sound, spoolup, or performance. I'm only running a small 16G, so it may make more of a difference with a bigger turbo.

Ebay intakes have went up.But are still more than half price of name brand ones. Add a brand new K&N and your still under budget compared to a named brand one. Just make sure you get the one that recuirculates the intake, and if you still have emissions, the one with 3 ports.

Now I see what you're saying. I still think you'd just be better off buying an ebay cheapie like previously mentioned.
