Toronto,
Hi,

This question is for the guys that have a TIAL BOV. I recently purchased one and plan to be running 20-22 psi on the street. The BOV hasn't been installed yet.

I have an FP3065 and I am looking for info on which spring works best. I currenty have the 11psi spring but was wondering if the 7psi spring was better for the boost levels I plan on running.

Thanks for the help.

Adam

I also have a tial bov and i run the 11lb spring as well. No problems here. My new motor is making enough vaccum to open the bov even with cams. Anyway from what i have read the 9lb spring is for cars without cams and the 7lb spring is for cars that have cams. I myself plan on getting the 7lb one but i don't know how much boost it will hold. Also something to note is that the 7lb spring to some is not considered strong enough so some people tend to put some washers on there to tighten it a bit.

Thanks for the reply. I have the HKS 264/272 combo so thats why I was wondering if I would be able to get the 11psi spring to open. Can you just buy a spring from anyone? I've looked at Tials webpage and don't see anything.

Also what psi are you running on the street so far with the 11psi spring?

I am running about 15psi on my t3/04b vtrim. I plan on running higher once i figure out some bugs in the car. I have no problems holding boost even at 21psi. I don't know where you can get the lower springs since my friend who is in the performance business got the tial for me but i can ask him where he would get it from.

That would be mint if you could find that out.

I also am going to call Magnus the shop up here and see if he recommends the 7psi spring for setups like ours.

I just thought I would get other guys opinions on here first as I don't like to bother them.

I got a 7psi spring from Diamondstarmotorsport. Running it with a RS60T and FP3 cams on a 4G64/63. I suppose if idle vacuum is more than 14 inHg, I'll have to shim it. Now if spring will assert itself over winter finally, I'll let you know how it runs

I talked to Steve at Magnus.

He said the 11 psi sping is all they order in and install in cars.

I guess I will find out shortly when I get this thing installed.

Thanks for the help guys.

There is a thread on Accufab throttlebodies in the bolt-on tech an they were having problems with breaking butterfly shafts, due to the stiff tial bov spring. They recommended switching to the 7lb spring and this cured the problem. Hope that helps a little. I will definitely be swithching. Good luck :thumb:

7psi spring is working. Been using it about a week now on a 60-1 at 17psi max. There's still a little bit of surge "occasionally" but definitely not all the time. Still breaking in a new 2.4 motor so I'm not always running up to 17psi, it's more like between 12 and 15. It's certainly quieter than an venting 1G bov IMO....but.... it's been awhile since the car has been running anyway so I can't remember! LOL!

Odd thing is though, at 10 inHg vacuum, the bov is open about half way. The 7psi spring should open completely by 14 inHg, but at 10 it's on it's way. Soon as you touch the throttle, the bov piston IMMEDIATELY shuts. Kinda cool to see how responsive the unit is actually. I may shim it a little or maybe find a 9psi spring.

Just an update for anyone that might be wondering if the 11psi spring will work.

The BOV is awesome. It works great and my turbo loves its life as spool between gears is awesome. I run 20psi on 94 octane pump gas and the BOV doesn't surge at all.

Doing a search on TIAL BOV's. I need to boost to 25psi and NOT get surge at lower boost/partial throttle. According to the Tial site I should use a 7# spring with my cams/12" of vacuum. Seems getting a BOV to hold to high boost and not surge at lower levels is tricky. More info would be appreciated. The springs are $30. each, OUCH! I was going to try a 9# to start if I get the TIAL. Seems like the 1G "dodge mod works well also. Stoock 1G seems like a good valve, maybe the dejon tool 30psi mod would be best? Suggestions? I don't want to spend $200. for a valve that doesn't fit my needs. mark

Sweet 97,

I have the 11psi spring and have had the boost anywhere between 17psi and 25 psi. I haven't had any surgeing at all. I run HKS 264,272s and have similar vacume.

Thanks WNNAFLY, that's the first definitive answer to date! I just want a BOV that will meet my needs. TIAL is supposed to be the best. I have emailed their tech dept. twice without response. Mark

I am useing the 7# spring with crower 415's and the only thing i notice so far is it like to open and close at idle.

11psi spring work good for me, 15 to 30psi. Never broke a TB.

Got the TIAL today. It is supposed to have a 9# spring. I opened it and the spring is white. Can anyone verify that white is a 9# and maybe give the colors of the other springs color and # rating? Thanks, mark

7# = Black
9# = White
11# = Silver

Hope this helped you out as well as the information that David gave you.
