Question Where to get OBDII cable for palm? [Merged 6-8]

Could someone provide the pin locations on the obd-2 connector used for our cars? Just the locations on the harness is fine... I don't need to know what they wires need to connect to on the serial adaptor.

I own a cable, but while attempting to fix a loose pin in my harness (it would push out when I connected it to my car leading to intermittent connectivity) I pulled the pin completely out. Yeah, DOH! was said a few times Anyway, I pulled it out, and then stupidly forgot which location it was in!!! So right now I have three of the four pins in place, and the other dangling with no clue where to put it. I've got some replacement pins to hopefully remedy the problem one, so hopefully someone can stare at their connector and count the locations of the pins relative to the corners. Thanks in advance

Where to get OBDII cable for palm?

I have my palm, and logging software, all I need now is a cable. Where do I buy the cable? I understand I can buy just a generic OBDII cable and a Null Modem Serial connector and that will hook it up to my palm. All the generic OBDII cables I'm finding on ebay all say they're for "Audi/VW"
Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hey man, I didn't do much of a search, but what I found will get you started on your own search. Here's a quote from a thread:

http://www.multiplex-engineering.com/products.htm

"what all would i need to make my own connector thingy? i heard you need the T16-003 interface. would you just hook your hotsync cable right up to that interface? do you need another cable? Does anybody know if these work?"

Here's the thread: Make your own Datalogger

in this thread they didn't determine wether the setup works or not. Im sure another search on "multiplex datalogger" will bring up the answer. Good luck, let us know if it works!

It's very simple to make your own cable. You can make one with a switching transister to emulate a RS-232 signal. You basicly have to have a palm with a good RS-232 (serial) interface or it doesn't work right. Here is a link to one I just built for my 88 Chevy Truck. It should work for the DSM as well. I'll try it out once I get my car running again. I know the one I have now doesn't look like this but maybe it does and I don't remember.

The site is: http://winaldl.joby.se/aldlcable.htm

You guys need to read more.

He's working on a 2G which has OBDII, therefor anything that would work on an 8 chevy will not work on his obdII compliant vehicle. A simple hot-sync cable will not work, he will need one of those along with the 80$ OBDII port adapter from multi-plex.

I did another search for : multi* data* it brought up a good thread that says to call multi-plex and order the t-13xxxxx adapter and tell them you want it made for use with the hal laundry software and you are golden. good luck.

Allright, I think I'm just going to get the stuff from multiplex. On the palm'n'stein website (the software i'm goin to be using) it says I need the T16-003 connector for the Hal Landry software. But what cable is it I need? By the looks of things I need Cable 7?

The purpose of the interface is that it converts the signal from the obd2 port to a signal that a palm or laptop can read. A normal obd2 scanner has them built in just cant log or show the information you need. I got my obd2 interface from ebay. Just watch on some of them the one I got has to have a logging program that is elm chip compatible. Im not sure if pocketlogger software is but im running obdgauge and im happy with it. If you need more information here is a link that they have done some searching on loggers. It has an assortment of them and links were to find them.

how ironic! i just bought the same cable(OBD-II) from the same guy! yes it will work but, you will need to buy a "DB9 male to male" connector to attach your palm cable to the obdII cable...i went to RadioShack and i costs like $8.00 for the connector.

i just got done logging today in fact!

so, buy the cable! i can post pics soon...

I was just going by what they said there. That they will not replace the cable. If you can get another cable to work with the pocketlogger software, then thats great. I don't know much about it directly. I have used obdgauge and the Multiplex Engineering interface with a palm M100.
