This is probably a stupid question, but I'm just brainstorming over here.
I replaced my front rotors/pads a couple of weeks ago after months of severe shaking/vibration in the front end while braking at highway speeds (coupled with occasional, very high-pitched squeal coming form the front wheels). THe brake pedal pulsated so I was pretty confident that the rotors were warped. The pads were good but I replaced them anyway with some Bendix metallics. The anti-rattle clips were changed too. (thinking that they were the cause of the squeal).
After doing all that, I took it out on the highway and realized that nothing changed. THe bad vibration, pulsating pedal and the occasional squeal were still there.
Now looking back, I remember that when I was installing the new rotors, the passenger side rotor would not align easily (in relation to the caliper, pads, clips when I lowered the caliper back down) as opposed to the other side. It's like it wouldn't sit flush to the hub unless you forcefully pressed it against it. Not sure if this is normal. May be one of the wheel studs is not straight?!
This sort of make sense since; it would make the rotor move around and cause this pulsating as well as explain the squeal if it were scraping against the anti-rattle clips.
I'm going to tear it all apart again this weekend, just need to know what to look for.
THanks.
