Winnipeg,
did a search, didnt quite find anything...

Car has been down for 4 months because i had no time to fix it. Timing skipped and belt the valves. Head had just been rebuilt 4000 miles before. Anyways, we figured the old gasket would still be fine as it didnt have alot of miles on it, so it makes me wonder

Fired car today, started fine, idled rough and wants to die as the idle starts to drop. There is a loud sucking sound that seems to be comming from the middle of the intake manfold... all the EGR stuff has been taken out and caped, but we cant figure out what it could be, any ideas?

More notably, after adjusting the idle it stayed running on its own, we noticed a burning smell and cut it. the exhaust manifold seemed to be smoking, i dont recall if it was white or grey smoke, but it wasnt black. Probably white. We also checked the tialpipe and found beads of moisture.

Only thing i can think of is we shoulda put a new head gasket on it. Should a new gasket like that leak? or does it not matter how long its been on there? so before i undo all the work i did this weekend, anyone else have ideas or things i could try? Thanks

Kurtis

well man if it was me, i would probably wouldnt go through the trouble of tearing it apart unless i planned on replacing ALL gaskets. but as far as the smoke from your exh manifold after you let it idle for a bit.......i most likely is just the oil and grease that was left on it from when you installed it. let it get hot and it will burn off, unless of course you have an exhaust leak. and also dont worry about moisture out of the tailpipe, completely normal. was there any smoke coming out of the tailpipe?

It was really hard to tell becuase i was there by myself and the lighting in the shop is really bad. I just got back cuz i headed out there to finish filling the rad with coolent and started it up again. It didnt seem to smoke this time, but it smelt ALOT like spraypaint...and i think i just figured out why, LOL. I think the guy i bought the head off of sprayed it with high heat silver paint ... i just remembered that now actualy, LOL.

I was a little worried, being honist ive never done anything like removing and reinstalling a head, and my buddy who was with me only did it once, with alot of help from his teacher, so it was a learning thing

From what has been said about turbos dieing and shooting out oil...im still on the stock 14b with 180,000 miles on it, being replaced soon but could that become a problem or contribute to anything?

Once i have it idling nicly again (i think i have some vac lines crossed, boost guage no workie, think i crossed the fpr and boost lines x.x) ill let it idle for a while and see what comes from it. Thanks for the quick response

kay ... the idle crap i fixed, im just a dumbass

The mani is still smoking after it starts to heat up, not even to running temp tho, and its deffently white smoke. After the car is off, there is white smoke aswell in the tailpipe.

Should i let it run for 10 minutes or so and ignore the smoke just to see if to goes away? any advice would be good...otherwise i guess its getting a leakdown test ... even tho i dont know what that actualy is .... =D help?
