Just got my first DSM!

97 GST :)

Well I am about to do a huge tune up with replacing all the little things!
I also need someone who is good with DSM's and would like to give me a hand!!

What are your thoughts on what to replace and good parts to use??

97 GST
HKS Cams
Electonic Greddy Spec 2 Boost contoller

The car also is running real warm under the hood like real HOT! thermostat??

the easy things:

plugs correct type and gapped to the correct specs.
thermostat
fuel filter

maybe replace valve cover gasket if you have any leaking.
also checking for boost leaks would be easy too.

There are probably other things that might need to be addressed. Just throwing out the real easy and fast things.

Well, I wouldn't just say cams and an electronic boost controller. Although those are nice later they are not needed now. First things first, maintence, Spark plug, check timing belt, make sure nothing is leaking. Boost test it, make sure its not overheating. Those are the key things that have to be perfect before you should start modding it.

O ya are cars get really really hot under the hood, If its not overheating then its probably not the thermostat. But make sure your temperature gauge works LOL

Thanks alot guys !!

Yeah i know alot of people begin with mods and not the tune ups !! I mean were all 10years+ old . even though we look new!!! :) LOL

well yea I am also wondering which are good sources for parts and good plugs/wires.

Goals:
270hp or so
Run good at least 3 months of the year :) LOL
I am shooting for a good unner and possibly 13s area.
I have swapped alot of hondas and had fun doing so but its time for BOOSt!!

welcome to boost... you are like me... i had a 95 civic before my '99 dsm about 5 years ago... i have two DSM's now... ;) welcome!

if you are looking for OEM parts, i really like JNZtuning.com

if you want performance, Extermepsi.com is GREAT!

i personally stay as far from Slowboyracing as possible...

Id get a bigger intake... let it breath better ;)

check belts for wear

First of all CONGRATS!!!!!

1.Belts, belts, belts, (bought my gsx about a month ago, had a peice of old balance belt floating around in there and f$*#ed up my water pump)
2. Oil Change + filter (just for peace of mind)
3. NKG plugs, gapped proper
4. Plug Wires
5. Compression test couldn't hurt

And try pulling off your intake to your turbo and wiggle the turbine, feel for play or movement.

HAVE FUN!

Well I jut put in NGK Iridiums!!
Wires 8.5mm :)
Restore in the oil!
And BG Synchromesh:)

Today Im welding in a new flexpipe for the apexi downpipe!

As long as the maintanence is all cleared up I'd just stick with the basics, turbo or cat-back exhaust ( I prefer 3in), and a new filter and intake pipe to help the turbo breathe easier. Perhaps a new BOV and 2.5 IC piping, and some minor fuel upgrades (pump,FPR,poss bigger injectors). The cams might be overkill, but if you were to get some from HKS I'd reccomend 264's at the most. And the new GReddy boost controller to turn the boost up a bit and I'd think you'd be safe on the stock T25. Also have you ever thought DSMLink instead of Greddy?
