what output level will the awd gearbox and transfer box take?
or is it a lottery? some have no problems
some do?

Depends on how you drive the car. Mine have been fine but some people complain of their's breaking with less power than my car. My car should be over 400whp also.

I was told by Wes Hess that a 91 tranny with stock gears made quite a few 10 sec and a few 9 sec passes for him.

I'm pretty sure evil_eagle ran quite a few 10 second passes and a couple of 9 second passes on the stock stuff also.

It depends on alot of factors such as drivetrain shock (which depends on your clutch), size size and compound, etc... Jake Montgomery made one last 4 seasons, while others (making half his horsepower) will go through one or two every season. So, it all depends.

I would trust a stocker at 400 WHP provided that you aren't beating the snot out of it.

It's just in how you drive it, I'm guessing. I have a 91 tranny that I've had in two cars, driven for about 4 years, and over 500 launches easy. I have always, since I got the first car, had a bad 2nd syncro and a small syncro issue with 3rd. I grind it just about everytime I go into 2nd and it's still going strong. I just change the fluid often and moreso when I race.
