already rebuilt... now with less that 12k on the trans the case cracks n the tranny shop says they can have the hairline crack welded for $650!!!!! n im in the process of sellin ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! n e suggestions? will the weld hold? n e cheaper or better routes?

Which part of the case cracked? The end piece opposite of the bellhousing is easy to change/remove. (8 14mm bolts or so and hit it with a rubber hammer after you drain the fluid). The other pieces arent as easy unfortunatly, it if its this part of the housing you can do it without too much trouble.

Also, try to find a better price, 650 seems pretty expensive for welding, you can just buy a decent used transmission for less than that, put it in and give the buyer your rebuilt one and explain to the buyer that it is a good rebuild, needs to be welded or a new case.

It's probably $650 for them to remove it and weld it. Ask them how much it will be if you drop it yourself. If it's still $650, find a new welding shop. Al is hard, but I'd be a millionare by now if I made that much for a single weld. Is it flexing? On a structural part of the trans? Leaking? Spreading? If not you might be able to get way with it just existing there. I've run a FWD trans with a chunk missing from the bellhousing.

ok pics coming 2marrow... not to familiar with terms like bellhousing and so on, but i no i took it there in the first place because it was leaking tranny oil and they said it was a bad seals then when down there they saw a hairline crack! i have a small feeling that it wasnt there b4 i went to the shop, but hey what can i do? i have really bad motor mounts and the night i started leaking it was because i had to shut my friend up about his "fast" modded mach 1 and i did! then came smoke and leakage. i should have not drivin it with bad mounts but stupid me... had to smoke him.
