Ok well i dropped my car off at the shop to get it inspected and the next day when i went to pick it up it wouldnt start. I checked it and it has fuel and spark. It turns over great but just doesnt get going. I checked each plug and all were black and soaked with fuel so i replaced them all. I also checked each plug to ensure they were all getting spark. Any ideas. The car is still at the shop so i am having them look at it tomorrow. Any help greatly appreciated.

I always forget about the tech articles. It makes things so much easier.

Haha, I tend to forget about them too....The only reason I remember that one is because I spent about 4 hours writing it. LOL. :boring:

femmedsm Thanks for that site. Im thinking that the coolant temperature sensor may be the problem?
Any body have any experience with this? The mechanic said that the car started and died before he could pull it into the bay, then started it and drove it onto the lift where it died and wouldnt start again. Now the car had ran great for me the past few weeks and when i dropped it off it was running excelent. Does this still sound like it may be the coolant temperature switch? I think i will order a new sensor tomorrow morning from advance auto. And see what happens if you guys think thats somewhere to start.
Also the guy who inspected it says he didnt drive it other than into the bay. Not sure if i can believe that one.

Well, throwing parts at the problem is only going to empty your wallet. If you can, try and test the ECT first (follow instructions in Haynes manual or FSM for specifics; the values are also listed in the article posted above). For a 1g, a new ECT runs about $62.00. Not sure what the price would be on a 2g, but probably somewhere in that range, just FYI. :)

yeah i know what you mean. I checked the part online at advance auto and its only 17 bucks minus my 20% employee discount. So i say its worth a shot. If it was 62 like the 1g then i wouldnt do it.

What I wouldn't give for an Advance Auto in Dallas ;) The closest one to me is about 100 miles away. Some days, I don't even think my DSM would make it that far. LOL

But yeah, 17 bucks is more than decent. I'd say in that case, go ahead and give it a shot, and we'll see where that leaves us :) Just FYI, the ECT on a 2g should be a single prong male connector (the 1g has a double male prong, and I've seen parts houses ship out the wrong part many times, so you'll want to check it to make sure you're picking up the right one)

Ok well the problem fixed its self and the car started with no problem the next day after i last posted in this thread.
Now to tonight, on my way to work i stopped at turkey hill which is about 50 yards from my apartment and shut the car off and when i came back out it started. I drove it about 20 ft put the clutch in to stop at the stop sign and it shut off. turned the key and it would not start.
Does anybody know what may be going out that will fix itself and then die a week and half later. The symptoms are the same as before. I dont know if it has fuel/spark but i will check tomorrow. Im sure it does though like before.
Im thinking cas, temperature sensor, anything else?
