results of boost leak test! found leak at fuel injector, guessing on how to fix!?
i have a 1990 basically stock talon tsi fwd ive owned for a month.
i bought and made a boost leak tester... the PVC cap for .74 cents, rubber fitting with the two bands for $3.76 (or somethingrather) from the Elk Grove Home Depot and rubber valve stem i got for free from Elk Grove Honda Motorcycles/Hobby Vehicles. grand total: $5.08 with CA taxes. i drilled the hole at the tip and bored it out to fit the valve stem... made all bands tight and hooked it up to a 150 psi air compressor...
the leak thats causing all my problems... is my #2 fuel injector (counting from passenger to drivers side). the port where the injector goes into the block is leaking and i can't figure out why... after looking at several other fuel injectors... my best guess is that this is because it's not "screwed in" enough. i didnt see any gasket on any of my injects so this is my best guess. what else could be the problem? im guessing that since it traced it all the way to my injector... there's no other leaks in the system?
will fixing the seals make my gas mileage go back to normal?

Injectors dont screw in. They use large rubber o-rings to seal to the head. After time these rubber o-rings will harden and feel like plastic. That is when they start leaking pressure. All you need to do it replace the o-rings on all of them and you will be OK. Your local Mits dealership will sell them and so does Slowboy Racing.

Just go to the parts store and get an injector seals kit, you can get one for mitsu, toyota and a few other brands, your parts store guy will be able to look around for ya. A full set for 4 injectors is about 15$. Quick job and most have never been replaced ever since the car rolled off the line.
Actually, RRE sells a set of four lower injector seals for $8. And new uppers too.. get a discount for buying both at once. And since you have them off already, might as well swap out both, to be honest.
Then again, from the Sac area it'd be a bit of a drive, and cost about as much to have 'em shipped as just going to Satan.
Go to a local parts store mine were only 4$ a piece you're getting screwed over. You can use toyota injector orings too so have them see what they have instock
The nearest Mitsu dealer to us is an hour and a half drive.......
-I opted to go to our local Dodge/Chysler dealer and order the seals for a Dodge Colt Vista.
*The '90+ models utilize the same seals and o-rings....cost was just under $2.00 per seal.
**I figure having as many options as possible when trying to find these seals is a good thing, as our local parts stores didn't have anything that would work.
