So I started putting on my new turbo setup...
I have a t3 tubular manifold with external wastegate. There is no room for the ex. wastegate though, the power stearing pump is in the way.

So I'm going to end up removing the power steering pump I guess?
How do you reroute it correctly?

Anything bad come of this besides hard to turn at low speed?

Also, how hard exactly is it to turn? compared to... XXXX

It's not too bad, you get used to it after about a week or so.

are you just removing the power steering pump or are you changing to a manual rack? you should change to a manual rack as a car with no power steering is easier to drive than a car with power steering that doesn't work.

I'de love to change to manual steering if it is available for 2g...
For now, I'll just be taking off the power steering pump and belt to fit my new turbo kit on.

Everyone keeps saying its so hard in these cars w/ no power steering...

Should I route the lines together or just cap them off where they go into the pump?
What way would be cleanest/best...?

Why not just save yourself the headache and get a T3 mani that will work with powersteering?

They are out there.

Because removing the powersteering pump is a headache...

While buying ANOTHER manifold when I just bought one is a Migraine...

Resell your existing one, then.

It might be more of a hassle up front, but it's more than worth the effort when driving a 2G sans power steering. If you autocross at all, DO NOT REMOVE POWER STEERING. If not, it's your decision, but it's heavily advised against.

I live in Houston, so no Autocross LOL.
I have an automatic so Both hands are free...

Why is it heavily advised against??
I hear people say no, its bad, and shouldn't do it... but I haven't heard any reasons why besides it takes more effort to turn at slower speeds.

As for getting another manifold, this car is my daily driver so I need to have it up and running ASAP. My Z28 is killin me on gas...

Because manual racks and power racks are completely different designs. It's going to be exponentially harder to turn a power rack with the pump gone than a manual rack.

Ultimately, it's your decision, but most people who have tried it would advise against it.

For the record, I run a power rack with no pump, and I have no complaints with it.

Did you reroute the lines together??
or just cap them off?

Do your higher speed turns feel safe??

I love the way my car feels now that i did the same thing.

See this is what I'm talkin about... so many mixed reviews about removing PS.
Well I have no choice its gotta be done.

I'm moving to Alaska before January (hopefully oct) so I'll just take out my A/C and somehow mount my PS at the A/C location. It'll work.... I guess HAHA

Another option is to just build a adapter pipe to move the wastegate to a location where you won't have to take out the power steering pump. A small bend with 2 flanges welded on may move it enough to make everything fit.

I just had a late night idea...
I was sent 2 SS flanges for the Wastegate dump...
They are nearly a 1/2 thick ATLEAST!

So if I took them to the machine shop and had them milled at a hard angle then it might just clear the PS pump!

I'm gonna check this out...

I think you got it mixed up. No power steering will be a PITA with your current rack.

The steering ratios are different for a power seering rack as apposed to a manual rack. Trying to turn a power rack w/o a pump is going to be twice as difficult as a standard manual rack. So, unless a manual rack is available, I would keep the power steering pump if I were you.

Which T3 manifold are you running?

And there are plenty of T3 manifolds out there that will clear everything. Even my Full Race copy and 44mm Tial (not pictured) clears the power steering pump just fine.

I installed everything, & removed power steering . . .

Its not near as bad as everyone says.
I turn my steering wheel with one hand on 5mph turns. So its not that bad.

Only thing that sucks is getting out of my parking spot @ my townhouse :notgood:

When you removed your power steering how did you do it? I have heard alot of different aguements about caping or looping the lines, and if you should drain the rack, or fill the rack with fluid. From your experience what did you do?
