Hello everyone, I am trying to raise my vehicle to its stock height and I am wondering if I need to buy new shocks. Does anybody know if Tokico Illumina adjustable shocks are compatible with stock springs. When I bought my Talon, it came with the Tokico Illumina adjustable skocks(front & rear) and Tokico lowering springs(front and rear). If I cannot use my Tokico Illumina's with stock springs, what other shocks do you guys suggest for this setup? I'm raising my Talon to the stock height in order to reduce the wear and tear on my ride.

Of course Illuminas will work with stock springs. Remember: if what matters is handling and you can't afford both shocks and spings, get new shocks.

I would think you'd end up blowing the shocks though since you are creating more work for them with a softer spring.

shocks blow when they can't control the spring. a performance shock should have absolutely no problem controlling the spring rate of the stock springs....

I have this exact setup in my car due to the fact that I cannot lower it. I live in a neigborhood with very bad potholes and a driveway that scrapes if I take it quickly as it is. So, no lowering for me until I move out of this area. What I can tell you is that the Tokicos with stock springs handle worlds better over the stock suspension (but not as good as a Tokico strut/spring combo you have now). The adjustability is a great plus, and you can dial in different settings front and rear to increase or decrease oversteer/understeer. Longevity with stock springs is not an issue with these shocks. Going too low and increasing pressure within the strut/shock is bad for longevity, but going with a stock height/soft srping should be fine. The softer springs will make the strut work a little harder, but not as hard as a 3" drop would. I would also recommend that you upgrade your sway bars, or at least put some poly bushings in, as the stock springs are just O.K. when it comes to preventing body roll. Poly bushings + Tokico 5-ways are a great suspension upgrade if you can't lower your car.

Matt.

Correct me if im wrong, but the Tokico (and other spring manuf.) spring rates aren't that much higher than the stock springs anyway. I wouldnt worry about blowing the shock from a soft spring. It should be fine.

i got a question about this... i'm looking into all new suspension but my budget limits me severely, this would be a great way for me to do it tho... buy part now and part later. whats the ride quality like on illuminas? my DSM is my only car so i need something that wont try to kill me on the shitty streets up here. the only reason im even looking for new suspension is that my OE struts are toast after 140k miles. also, for later on, are Eibach Pro-Kit's a good spring to combo with the illuminas? i'm not looking for cornering ability too much, im more concerned with straight-line acceleration, with less weight transfer and something that makes my car corner a little better than what i have now.
