I have GC coilovers with Koni Yellow shocks up front and AGXs in the rear. I like the setup except the front doesn't have nearly enough travel. I know that RRE shortens their Konis, and I was curious if anyone knows how they do it. I have seen a setup using the RRE setup and the only difference I could notice was it appeared as though RRE welded the insert into the strut housing at the bottom where I bolted them in per the instructions that came with the Konis. Is there any way I can mod my strut bodies or the inserts to give some added travel?

there is a 1" or so threaded part on the bottom of the cartridge where you're supposed to attatch it to the strut body with a bolt. if you cut that part off and have the cartridge flush with the bottom, then you basically gain 1"
you then have to weld the cartridge in place since there's no way to bolt it on anymore.

Thanks for the reply. I assumed this is what they did, but I was concerned that welding on a shock would cause it to explode. I thought about submerging the majority of the shock in a bucket of water to keep it cool. Do you have any idea if RRE does anything to keep the inserts cool while welding? I may just mod the housing to allow the threaded portion to slide through and stick out the bottom.
