My friend just picked up a 93 Plymoth Laser FWD Turbo. We don't much about it but we pulled the tranny out of because it was basically junk and replaced it with another turbo FWD tranny(91+) and the half shafts inlets to the tranny are too big in diameter. We also found a nice ACT clutch inside when we pulled the tranny, but I need to know if they make oversized aftermarket axle shafts or what. I've never heard of this before but if anyone has any info that would be great. Sorry for the crappy post, i'm in a hurry at work.

93+ FWD trannies used larger shafts than 90-92 FWD trannies (which are the same size as 90-99 AWD shafts).

Basically, you ether need to find a 93+ tranny (ether 1G or convert to a 2G FWD tranny) or if you already have 90-92 tranny, you will need to find a matching "small" axle. But you could use an AWD axle, which is a bit better than a small FWD axle.

Thanks for the reply. We already bolted up the other tranny I had so I went ahead and order some new axle shafts FOR A 93 and they are the smaller ones....so, does that make any sense? You would think if I ordered on for a 93 it would be bigger if it came bigger stock in 93-94. The guy at Napa said is the same part number for 90-94 FWD & AWDs(on the passenger side anyways).

These same guys would have you believe that front AWD brakes and rear ends are the same for 90-94 models... And do not even bring up 6 bolt vs 7 bolt engines...

This is plane and simple, many car reference books and lists are wrong! And anytime you have an oddball situation (like these axles), you simply should not rely on them.

This is especially bad when it comes to junk yards. They go by those books and then lie to you as to which car it came from...

Yea, I don't doubt that they could be and are sometimes wrong at the parts store. I've been messing around with these trannys for a while and so have some friends of mine and I never ran it this problem before. I'm assuming the 93 & 94 fwd axle shafts are harder to find then? Anyways, I have the right shaft here now so i'll take it from their, thanks again for the info.
