Hey guys, Marti at SBR reccomended a Contitech timing belt for my budget rebuild. It's about $50 and I was wondering if anyone else has used this belt, heard anything about them, etc.

I might just pay the little extra for the OEM for some peice of mind.

Let me know, thanks guys!

Contitech is the OEM supplier for Mercedes Benz, Volvo, BMW Audi, Mitsubishi and a few others. I have used them several times on my and other peoples cars. They are fine. The fancy mitsu box and a diamond star on the belt is piece of mind is it ROFL. Thats great but really there is nothing wrong with doing the research or getting a tip and trying something "Aftermarket" There are some very economical performance parts out there that are high quality w/o all the advertisement and b/s jacking the price up. Contitech happens to be one of them. They make the stock one you were prepared to shell out extra cash for. 50 is a bit on the high side I have bought them for generally between 27-38 bucks.... I am about to put on my profile car I was able to troll e bay ask questions to sellers and find a complete timing belt kit with water pump for 90 bucks shipped. ALL contitech belts, GMB everything else idler tensioner etc etc. I looked a little harder and came up with an OE NEW IN BOX auto tensioner for 59 bucks shipped. COMPLETE timing and water pump set for under 150 bucks :thumb:. Not a bad day if I had to say so myself. The best part, its all good stuff I know I wont have to loose sleep over worrying about if tomorrows second to fourth pull going to end this crappy <but cheap> stuff I bought trying to save a buck.

Sorry to semi-jack the thread, just happened to be on the same boat today about the whole contitech/gmb combo.
GMB is a good brand for water pump and tensioner pulley for balance shaft ?

dsm j I think so, I have used them w/o any issue. You dont always have the money to throw out on "oem" parts. My guns and my cars have fought me for years over who to spend more money on. I rarely skimp on my guns and I rarely skimp on my cars. I read up on anything I even think for a second is of questionable quality. I NEVER buy w/o asking questions. It has not only saved me bunch of time because my cars or guns seldom break but it has also saved me a good amount of money. There are ALWAYS people who get a dud now and again. From the three cent idiot part to a several thousand dollar fueling system. Mistakes can and do happen from time to time. The advent of overseas production has made our job a lot harder because of the massive influx in low quality manufacturing and lack or absence of quality control. They make it look just as nice as the good stuff to allure people with a low price tag and the illusion of a quality product. It happens every minute of every day my friend. If you take the time and read up you can get the job done @ a good price with good parts. All it takes it some work and the desire to learn and ask questions.
