Custom Intake and Turbo manifold questions

Ok I have a couple questions and comments for exhaust manifolds and intake manifolds. 1st off, a friend of mine and I are building yet another dsm only this time alot more serious than 12's so $ and custom work has come into affect alot more. We are having a buddy of mine (Dave Fry of PSI PROformance) outside Philadelphia custom make 3 inch intercooler piping with v band clamps, an equal length tubular turbo manifold, and POSSIBLY and intake manifold as well.

I'm sure a few of you have given this a shot and I would appreciate any insight on the intake manifold idea. The thing is, he has done turbo manifolds before. He is a big Honda guy who is somewhat familiar with dsms. Here is a link to his 675hp street civic and his 1st crack at an equal length tubular manifold. I trust we will be pleased with the turbo manifold but as for the intake, he has never attempted a sheetmetal intake and any information on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Here are pics of the manifold... they are in there, just scroll down.

I will post up pics of his dsm turbo manifold after he is finished and maybe he can do a couple custom pieces for others here in the dsm community for a fraction of dnp or full race's prices.
Rule of thumb we are going by exhaust wise is
Diameter: 2000cc 1.375-1.75 in

2400cc 1.5-1.9in
This is what we are using...1.9 inches wich is a bit large but for the portwork and because we are using a 2.4L witha dual bb turbo, we shouldnt have lag problems and can afford to go that wide.

Smaller diameter tubes for widest power band and larger size where top end power is more important and sluggish throttle response is acceptable.

Intake is the obvious fat runners for easy engine breathing at high rpms, long runners for bottom end. as for plenum design, it is said that plenum volume of 1.6 times the engine size is best.
How so?
Does this figure include runner volume also?
What about a desgin for even cylinder air distribution? How bout using velocity stacks in the plenum at each runner?
Placement for extra injectors via AEM EMS and spray qualities?
nitrous bung placement?
These are all questions that arise when building a sheetmetal intake manifold. What do you guys suggest?
Thanx

Nobody has tried to make custom manifolds?

Can anyone tell me how I can vent my BOV so its loud? my car keeps idling funny without the hose on it!

I just have to ask this....If you don't understand the operation of your BOV and it's effect on fuel management how are you going to ever build a serious race car?

just wondering who is doing the design work and all not knocking you.

As for your BOV: The bov on the TEL has a few querks that you have to pay attention to. First off is that at idle the BOV may be open and if you are not recirculating you are getting unmetered air into the system. Additionally you will be pulling in dirty air and a grain of sand will really mess up your turbo turbine blades.

I am not going to touch on making it loud that isn't my realm I will just leave it at: Plug it back in and recirc!!! The system was designed for performance and not volume.

Mr.Turd, you are in luck as a few of us are right in the middle of building a variable runner and plenum intake. The first ones will made around the needs a of a high hp 2.4 with a 2.0 version following soon.Look for it by the end of summer.

Well we will have one made to the lengths and widths we need before the end of the summer. Manifolds have been made via a cad system etc etc and have been flowed and dynoed and got good results. I just wanted input about runner lengths, plenum size, and runner widths for the motor/setup we have. Every intake will produce different numbers accordingly. We should have one made in a few weeks and ill post up the results in this forum (extreme tech) due to its lack of manifold building knowledge and hopefully alot of people can benefit from it. Good luck with the project you have going for yourself as well but I'm looking for info, not to buy manifolds.
Thanks and good luck!
