How to repair a hard brake line
You'll need the following tools and parts depending where the problem exist.... Starting from left to right
a. 3/16 brake hard brake line.
b. 3/16 Female Union
c. Full Union, 3/16" tube to 3/16" tube
d. (top) mini tube cutter
e. (bottom) double flare tool (Do not use a cheap flare tool)
Note: Does not matter if you select Metric or SAE as long as you select the same type for all parts purchasing.
Instructions A: If the problem is located near the male union / tube nut. Use the following instructions:
Step 1a: Go to the very end of the brake line and use the tube cutter to cut at the very end of the bake line. Make sure end of the brake line is flush. File down tube flush - if needed.
Step 2a: Mount flare tool and use tool instructions on how to double flare brake line / tubing.
Note: Double flaring the brake line is a must. Make sure the male union /tube nut is on brake line and facing the correct direction before making the flare. If needed purchase male union / tube nut for ABS unit from the Mitsubishi / Eagle dealers.
Step 3a: Carefully bend brake line and screw in male union / tube nut. Bleed brakes and check for leaks before test drive.
Instructions B: If tubing is too short to repair. Follow the following instructions:
Step 1b: Cut a piece of the brake line in a straight area and attach one side of the Full Union, 3/16" tube to 3/16" tube.
Step 2b: Measure brake line length needed to attach to other end of brake line or newly made brake line. Make sure any required fitting is at the end of the brake line. Carefully bend brake line and attach the other end of Full Union, 3/16" tube to 3/16" tube.
Note: You can use use the female union instead of the full union. You'll need to double flare the two ends of the brake line. Make sure the the two male union from the new brake line is inserted and is facing the correct way before flaring the ends. (Not Pictured)
Step 3b: Screw in brake line to unit and or connect the two brake lines using the two Full Union, 3/16" tube to 3/16" tube.
Bleed brakes and check for leaks before test drive.
