S & R Performance DSM Brake Package

I want to start off by saying that Marti over at S&R is good people. I inquired about his brake package and Marti informed me that he runs these rotors on his boosted IS300 and all his DSM's, sold me on the quality of the package. I then gave him my short (really short) timetable. Well after a couple phone calls and PM's Marti pulled some strings and got me everything I needed on time and at a good price.

Upon receiving my packages of course I ooooo'd and ahhhhh'd. The front slotted rotors are very nice, and come blemish free and with cross hatching on the face as I would expect new rotors should. They are nice and meaty, very close to the factory OEM thickness; I didn't have my calipers but I might whip out a measurement when I do the backs. But the good ol' eyeball tape-measure says they're good. I haven't compared the rear rotors yet.

The install went as most brake jobs typically do. The removal of original equipment took longer then I wanted, involved multiple long handled rachets, some pipe. and of course my favorite weapon (I mean tool) a BFH to knock the old rotors off.

Install of the new rotors and pads (I didn't have the time to fiddle with old rusted lines) was a breeze. All the right holes lined up with their proper stud and slid in quite nicely, A+ for fit and finish on the rotors.

Never having driven a car with upgraded rotors and pads I was very surprised at how hard the Hawk HPS pads gripped when they were warmed up. While performing Hawk's recommended burnishing procedure I almost put myself through the windshield during the final couple hard stops; remember I haven't even touched the back brakes yet. I can't wait to see what its like with all four corners upgraded.

The kit on S&R's website is definitely worth the $$$. The hole package cost a little more then what I was looking at for just four slotted rotors made by other manufacturers. Besides four brand new slotted rotors you also get a full set of Hawk HPS pads, and stainless lines to boot. Marti even threw in a liter of some Motul 5.1 brake fluid for me!!

The only thing I would do differently if I was to do it again is allow for much much more deconstruction time. I was a little crunched for time. When I do the backs I'm going to make sure I have a solid day to tackle whatever problems I may run into during removal.

S&R performance has a highly satisfied customer up in New Jersey. Don't over look this package if you are looking for a quality brake upgrade for a great price. Pictures to come within a week.
