please help, i just gotta tranny
i just got a tranny from japan engines and transmissions, and i opened it up to check things out and i found two loose ball bearings floating around in there. i just took apart my old tranny and the only bb style bearings are the end of the output and input shafts. and they have shields on them and the bearings cant get loose, are there any other bearings that are ball bearings in this tranny. i dont wanna put it back together and break it. it is from a 2003 dodge neon, base model, engine code, 420A, tranny code, nv-t350. any help or reference to a link that would explain this would be great.
thanks all

Are you referring to the roller bearings?

are they actually roller bearings at the end of the shafts? not the end toward the engine, but the opposite end. they seem to look like huge skate bearings, so figured they would be bb style bearings. they are encased by shields. so if roller or not, they cant escape. all of the end shaft bearings are in place. thats why i cant understand this, all bearings are there with nothing missing, it seems like. these two loose bb's are a little over a quarter of and inch. something i wouldnt think would be in there, they seem too small for anything. are there any bearings that could get loose from the actual shaft itself, like underneath the gears or what not?
i count six bearings, two on each shaft, input, output; two in diffs. the cold side of the input, output, im not sure if they're ball or roller

well ive finally found out where they came from due to taking my old tranny apart, basically by beating the **** out of it. it goes to the syncronizer cluster (sliding assembly). they sit inside bearing keepers, and are sprung. now does anyone know how to properly dissasemble this tranny? or have any reference to a site that would show how?
thanks all

If you're looking to do synchro's and the like, good luck with that. I could not source out parts, for one. Mitsu themselves sell only the whole assembly (shaft inclusive) for the low price of around $1200 (depending on your connections).
Taking that bitch apart, also take some balls. They press fit those assemblies in there with Superman's help . It goes off like a shot when she frees up. Turned out to be a waste of time for me, because I won't pay $1200 (a little less using my connections) for the assembly.
Generally, our tranny's are pretty solid. Their only weak point seems to be the diff. Get a Quaife, problem solved . I'm running an ERT retrofit which works well, but won't help you because they are no longer in business. The OBX actually has a pretty good rep (who would of thought those words would go together?) when you do a little alteration.

actually, what im doing is taking from the old syncros, all i need to do is take the poppet balls out the the old syncros and put them in the new, because they fell out. i borrowed a complete teardown and assembly of the transmission from my work, honda, which was mitsu, so yeah. but as for getting the shafts out, anyone have any techniques??
thanks
