Which type of engine mangement system should i use?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

If your profile is complete, you have no need for any type of engine management system. Your car is basically stock besides intake, exhaust, etc. You will need a engine management/ tuning system when if you do decide to turbo your car and begin to upgrade the fuel system.

As of right now, save your money, and buy the turbo kit and ask again when you are ready. :thumb:

Absolutely correct. There's no need for fuel management unless you have larger injectors. You can however optimize the stock tune on stock boost with an EPROM ECU and Keydiver chip that has custom A/F maps and a little more timing up top. By getting away from the factory rich 9.5:1 A/F ratio and going to 17-18 degrees of timing and you'll see much more response and efficiency from the stock parts. The benefit to this is that when you step up to larger injectors, pump and turbo, all you'll need is a new chip.

Generally though, if you're happy with the way it's running now, the stock ECU will do fine until you begin the upgrade process.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Unless you have an eprom ecu, then your options are

AFC or super AFC
MAFT (with GM sensor, fullthrottle.com)
ECU+ (ecuplus.com, i believe)
e-manage

if you do have an eprom ecu and it's socketed, then you can either get a

custom chip (from keydiver.com)
DSMLINK (dsmlink.com)

The chip, e-manage (with the correct options) and DSMLINK will allow you to run bigger injectors ( with this I mean over 750cc) without the ill effects of over advance timing.

The chip is just that, you tell them what you have and want, then they create one for that specific set up.

E-manage and DSMLINK let's you tune via a computer (laptop).

AFC and MAFT requires some sort of a datalogger. (pocketlogger.com)

ECU+ and DSMLINK has its own datalogger built in.

There are a lot of options out there. These are just some of them but the key is learning through "searching" and reading up on them. Good luck. :thumb:

well the car in my profile i don't have anymore im in the process of buyin a 96 tsi awd talon with alot of mods :talon:
I would like to know the specs on this new car. Based on the mods that it does have I will be able to tell you the most appropriate tuning device you will need. However, if the car has decent mods already, it "should" have some sort of tuning device now. If it doesn't, I'd be wary of other things the previous owner may have "skimped" on.
