title pretty much states it. i bought a greddy temperature gauge and i was wondering which would be more important to keep an eye on: my water temps or my oil temps. which is more likely to cause trouble on our cars?

On my 90 the stock temperature gauge is actually very accurate. The middle is right at 185 deg. I'd say hook it up to the oil since you don't have a stock temp gauge for that, just pressure. :thumb:

If your stock temp gauge is accurate, then tap it for oil, if not, then your coolant.

if my stock temp gauge is accurate? i don't think there is a gague for oil temperature. but then again the coolant gauge won't move past the center line until temps reach 225* which is a little past the comfort zone for me.. anyone else have opinons? i HATE redoing mods so i want to get this right the first time

That sounds like your stock temperature gauge isn't accurate then. I'd use your new gauge for the coolant then and maybe consider buying a second one for the oil if you really think you need it.

^^^^^ I agree, it does sound like your stock temp gauge isnt accurate, use the gauge you have for coolant temp.

well i was under the impression that the 2g coolant gauge doesn't move past half till 225*.. maybe i was misinformed because mine personally have never moved past the half way point..

There both very important, however with lots of mods, i would keep my eye on oil pressure, thus if its low u can shut it down, with coolants you may blow a head gasket, with oil you may spin a bearing or destroy it all together, so to answer your question that oil gauge is more important to be keeping an eye on. And the stock one is junk, it will tell you , you lost pressure after the fact that the damage is already done.

sakrafice thanks for the advice but the gauge is a TEMP gauge not a pressure gauge.. what are some consequences of hot oil? how often does it happen on our cars? i am leaning heavily towards coolant temps right now. oh and i retract the statement about the 225*F needed to move the 2g past half point

Sorry, didn't catch that, my mistake. Anyway as for temperatures, yes water... unless your going all out you shouldn't have to worry about oil temp. All i can say is if your oil is really hot you will have to add more oil to it, which also makes it bad on turbo and other various parts. You shouldn't run into an oil problem as longs as your not having your turbo glowing every day. Sorry if this don't help, you asked for advice.

^^ nah this is actually the first thread i started that i had my question answered beyond the shadow of a doubt. i have decided to go with water/coolant. thanks guys you have been super helpful!

^^ oil gauge adapter is another 60 bucks from greedy. and since i run a 50 trim thats so close to the rad i think coolant is my number 1 concern
