Hello everyone, I have recently purchased a 1997 Talon ESI for $600, It runs great but It's a bit beat up. The common rust infront of the rear tire of course. The guy left a magna flow cat back on it, which values for more than I paid for the whole car! He also left a TC Sportline Carbon fiber hood in perfect condition, just needs new clear coat, that to was almost as much as what I paid for. He also gave me cold air intake. Although it was a great buy in my eyes, the interior is pretty good, except the carpet...good lord... It is ripped, stained, and smells TERRIBLE. I have power washed it and have tried different solutions. It is still a mess and is in bad condition...I can't afford a replacement carpet right now, what should I do?

Thanks A ton,
Schwebe

Fabreeze while it's still in the car and an odour absorber something similar to a box of baking soda, should be able to find them at most hardware stores.

Used one in one of my stinky old winter beaters and it worked well.

Should get you by until you can afford a replacement.

Degreaser (g900), a brush, and power washer. Spray the degreaser on it and scrub the f**k out of it, then power wash it.
W do this at my work with floor mats, they come out great!

I have the carpet out and have tried tons of different deodorizers nothing works, it smells like old coffe and pee still, with a faint scent of soap

buy a bottle of zep carpet cleaner put the carpet in a big garbage bin. put in zep fill with water and put a big rock on top to hold it under the water. leave for a day. take it out powerwash it. let dry for another day and then your carpet wont smell anymore. also clean the floor boards while the carpets up.

That's a pretty good idea actually, I'll have to see if i can try that out when it warms up today, thanks!

I had the same problem. I just used hyrogen peroxide youll need about 3 or 4 bottles (costs $1 a pop) and dish soap (just need like not even a 1/4 of a bottle for the entire car) and scrub A LOT with an old or wire brush. Than, let it soak overnight in a trash can or something, let it dry.

Worked out perfect for me

Thanks a ton guys, I have a ton of different stuff to try now and Its going to get up to 64 degrees today in Ohio! So I definitely will try to get her cleaned up. If all else fails then I will go with the carpet, and yes! This whole situation "stinks" haha ;)

If your old carpet is ripped and the "new to you" one is good shape in comparison then that sounds like the better way to go. Let us know how you make out cleaning the old one!

Well I am almost wondering if the cleaning techniques work then I will probably be able to pick up some floor mats to cover the little tears. I just do NOT want a stinky car

That would work, by the way it sounded the carpet was pretty much finished.

If it's not that bad then just clean it and leave it if you are able, money for other things is always good :p

Hah well it really is that terrible! I'm just thinking when I throw everything back in, it'll probably be all covered up, maybe I'll hold off until further fundings

I'd go to a salvage yard, they will usually sell carpets for 20 to 30 bucks.

I'm really thinking about taking a trip to one of the bigger city junkyards around here because that'd probably be pretty easy, then again, I hope its already torn down pretty far. I don't want to have to do that all over again, they made these cars to be worked on by midgets, and I'm way to tall for it, I get a messed up back every time hah

Either way, let us know what the outcome is :thumb:

I'm going to be heading into town in a bit to see what I can get to sport treat and scrub, its 65 degrees here! I might put some pics up later today

If something needs work done to it, then it is not perfect condition!:ohdamn:

Well most people would say its perfect, but I'm going to reclear it when its time for new paint, just want it to look super clean

Use "spot shot" carpet cleaner on it. You can get it at wal-mart and does a great job. Should take care of the smell too. I did my carpet about a year and a half ago and I still smell carpet cleaner when I get in the car.

^^^ I'm sure enough of us were thinking it after looking at the title but didn't want to post it :D

Hah about time somebody caught that ;)

Also, I took a trip into town yesterday and purchased some of the cleaners you guys told me to get. I scrubbed for hours and tried to remove as much as I could. It didn't seem to help to much, it isn't so noticeable anymore, and the smell is certainly gone! I would upload a picture but it was to dark to really see the stains. When I get home from school and if the suns out I will try to get a picture. The only really noticeable stains now are in the back seat foot spot (which is barely visible). And in the front were floor mats would go. If I just throw some nice grey floor mats down then I think I'll be good to go! Thanks a lot for all the help guys! Like I said I will try to get some pictures up later today if the suns out

If your carpet smell too bad then why did you try some professional commercial carpet cleaning services because they have the ability to solve that kind of problems daily with their powerful and effective products. I know it cost much but you get satisfactory services in less time and your car looks more clean and beautiful from inside. I hope you understand what i want to say here so keep it in your mind and hire the best one.
